Navy Yard Shooter - Dishonorably Discharged, Multiple Weapons Convictions, Yet Holds a SECRET Clearance? There's No Way.
124 2013-09-17 by WeaponizedTruth
Watching the CNN and Fox News after-coverage of the shooting. They're saying this guy was Dishonorably Discharged from the Navy, had several weapons convictions, yet somehow got a contractor job and held a SECRET clearance.
I ran this one by my ex-roommate, who was an OPM Background Investigator, just to make sure I wasn't crazy. He's telling me there's no way this guy would have had a clearance with all that on his record.
His first question was, who the hell did this guy's background investigation? They keep records on these, and they are supposed to go back and terminate the investigator if they missed something like this.

I was denied my clearance for my current employer for a felony CHARGE from 10 years earlier and AFTER I held a TS-SCI while in the Navy. There's no way his investigator missed all that.

I had heard he had a general discharge. It's the second best discharge. After that is general under other than honorable discharge, bad conduct discharge and below that is dishonorable discharge. Back in the day it was much easier to get a dishonorable discharge.
I do think the whole thing is sketchy. Dude gets severe PTSD due to September 11th, he is blacking out and shooting up a car, discharging firearms indoors (if you were in the military you know how to clean a weapon), travels often internationally, all these things are big red flags.

It does sound like we've just witnessed a possible end-result, real-life counterpart to the Bourne series' "Treadstone".

He does have white person name. I'm not being racist but Aaron Alexis sounds code like.
Pry nothing though

Great point from the other thread: A 2-Second Google Search picks up his mugshot from Forth Worth.
What was his Background Investigator doing? Partying with the Secret Service?

Maybe he used to be a spy til he got burned.

Horrible catastrophes cause huge ratings for CNN, I can only assume they have a plan in place to stretch coverage out as long as possible even if they're throwing out incredibly false information. This is huge money for CNN, compared to the 50,000 people who watch prime time.
I think it goes without saying...don't believe anything you see/hear on your damn TV.
3 XxSCRAPOxX 2013-09-17
AaaAaaand now we have uncovered the truth. The real conspiracy is lying for ratings.

Jesus Chirst you guys. It is possible for men in suits to arrange things like the JFK assassination. Simultaneously it is possible for an individual with mental problems to just go out and shoot some people.
Both things can be true. Its not all-or-nothing.
Fuck.

hmm. So I don't disagree with you, but at the same time this is a place for questioning and thinking.
.
In my humble opinion:
1.) it is OK for someone to post something like this to drive a discussion.
2.) it is OK for people to upvote this to raise awareness and drive more discussion.
3.) discussion on this topic does not mean that the OP is "crazy". Maybe he doesn't know that someone who isn't allowed access to certain jobs as a government employee can be as a contractor.
.
By having these discussions people will be more knowledgeable. People here will all now be able to have an educated rebuttal if someone throws this logic at them in the future.
.
Dumb questions can have purpose too ;)

Secret is the lowest of the low isn't it? He probably got it for access to some building or area as a contractor.
3 AllUrMemes 2013-09-17
Confidential is lowest. Secret is still not that impressive, but does require a big ass background check.
-2 Meister_Vargr 2013-09-17
Yep, I've had access to "Top Secret" materials in the past when I worked as a temp in a warehouse. I had to sign an offical secrets form, but the information would be better described as restricted since it was personal records and the like.
tldr: Top Secret isn't all that secret.
8 SNbadass 2013-09-17
You were working with PII, not top secret materials. They just didn't want you handing out socials.
7 WhiteE350 2013-09-17
Anybody think its strange that he joined the navy at age 28? By the time I was 28 I had been out for three years.
6 SNbadass 2013-09-17
I was in boot with a 34 year old. I out rank several people wo are 10 years older than me. People join at all ages now.
1 [deleted] 2013-09-17
I went through basic with a 40 year old. He was prior service from like 10 + years earlier and forced to go back through and still did it. Crazy old man.
1 SNbadass 2013-09-17
Yeah 34 is max age (at least for navy) unless you are prior service, then they subtract you time in service from your age. If it is under 30 you are good to go.
3 carcoma 2013-09-17
I'm 28 and considering joining the Coast Guard before I'm ineligible.
edit: but yes. it is strange.
1 WhiteE350 2013-09-17
Good for you. I hope everything works out for you. I'm just saying that when I was in bootcamp at 20 years old there weren't many people who were older than me in my class .
2 XxSCRAPOxX 2013-09-17
I considered joining around that age. Thought about it until about 32 then decided I don't support the people I would be fighting for. Doesn't seem odd though. At least not to me.

A SECRET clearance means almost nothing. They hand that shit out like candy, it makes sense for a computer tech working as a contractor. He would inevitably handle computers holding some form of low-classified material
7 ninja0314 2013-09-17
False, vet here. When they approve of a secret clearance they check criminal history, public family affiliation (socialist, commie parties etc.) but essentially it is done by a man who never leaves a desk. And I have personally seen secret clearance taken away for not paying bills on time. Any kind of classified clearance is a big deal.
They don't trust you as far as they can throw you. For a secret they just don't attach many "investigative weights" for the "toss".
Edit: For Top Secret they attach many 'investigative weights'. FBI may even talk in person to your past affiliates.

Was interested until I saw "CNN and Fox." Did CNN at least get his name right this time?
4 Thameus 2013-09-17
That's going to take more than a day, and said investigator will stay on the payroll while he's being investigated and deposed, although at some point I certainly hope they put his ass on administrative leave.
Look on the bright side: they'll have to hire three temps to go back and redo every check that investigator has ever conducted. Jobs for 'Muricans! I feel bad for the innocents getting reinvestigated though.
4 [deleted] 2013-09-17
Reports are that he had another person's keycard.
3 xenoglossus 2013-09-17
Key component that the media is not covering, and any mention of it is downvoted immediately. The name on the ID card allegedly found near the corpse of the gunman was "Rollie Chance", which was redacted by the MSM just after initial reports.
4 [deleted] 2013-09-17
Does anyone remember the reports yesterday that they were looking for 2 accomplices?
Now, Sky News at least are reporting he "acted alone".
Also, reports of him "hearing voices" and that he would black out and have no memory of what/where he'd been..... Something isn't right
5 XxSCRAPOxX 2013-09-17
I'm with you here. It seems sketchy because A. This is 3 times in a row that the shooter was under treatment for psychosis. B. three times initial reports of multiple shooters that magically become one shooter. C. All had ar's and we know the current administration LOVES ar's.
I don't want to cry conspiracy but a pattern seems to be developing. Either these are false flags in an attempt to make a gun grab, which can be argued to to the big push for bans after the last shooting, or we have a serious problem with mental health patients gaining access to weapons. The mental health thing seems more feasible.
1 3DGrunge 2013-09-17
Another interesting tidbit. Mass shootings were much more frequent under Obama and Clinton than Bush 1 and 2. Both Obama and Clinton are the most anti gun presidents we have had.
3 XxSCRAPOxX 2013-09-17
Let me put my tinfoil hat back on for a second so the NSA can't read this, but it seems to me they want that ar, and all accurate midrange defense weapons banned because they are extremely effective at holding off advancing intruders and securing your perimeter. Seems like the best weapon for a revolution. They are terrible for committing crime. Big bulky hard to conceal, hard to aim at close range......but for hunkering down and being able to fire repeatedly and accurately at distance they are amazing. I could see why the Feds wouldn't want them around. Especially with an approval rating lower then bushes. Worst ever I believe for congress and the president alike. But this doesn't sell me on a false flag. Especially not for this shooting. Aurora co, and newton ct are suspect to me but I have a feeling this was PTSD gone awry. What is annoying is as time goes by facts will get blurred and forgotten and Alex jones and his cronies will run with it as far as they can. The news makes up stories for ratings. If they have no info they just make shit up. That's the real conspiracy here. The media lies, not because of some Obama agenda but because whoever gives some info first will get the highest ratings. Fuck it if their real facts or not. Are any facts 'real'?
2 TheUltimateSalesman 2013-09-17
I only caught one report yesterday because I was busy, and that report said there were 3 in total.
4 NeoPlatonist 2013-09-17
The narrative they are pushing also includes that he was "mentally ill" and was "hearing voices". Just another manufactured case to push the so-called 'common sense' gun grabbing laws.
Define 'mentally ill' initially to include people who fit the widely accepted standard popularized in films and tv.
Take guns away from everyone labeled 'mentally ill'.
Slowly expand definition of 'mentally ill' to include more and more people, eventually to include the profiles of anyone who doesn't fit the description of an ideal Democrat party-member.
All guns and hence political power rests with Democrats.
4 fredman555 2013-09-17
people here fail to understand. a government clearance of ANY kind requires a background check. if someone is dishonorably discharged, has multiple and has weapons convictions there is no way he can get a clearance through normal means.
while anyone with a clean record is elligable to get one, youre under the microscope. simply losing your ID badge to get into the building you work at is grounds to decide whether or not you get to keep your clearance
3 [deleted] 2013-09-17
Do you people know the difference between a secret clearance and a top secret clearance?
3 arynx 2013-09-17
Oh so multiple firearms violations is no biggie?
1 [deleted] 2013-09-17
A secret clearance allows you to handle social security numbers...that's it. Nothing fancy.
1 xenoglossus 2013-09-17
"You people"? Get the fuck out.
1 [deleted] 2013-09-17
I'm sorry, people of reddit? People of r/conspiracy? Pick one. Next time, I'll be more PC so I won't hurt your feelings.
1 xenoglossus 2013-09-17
You are here. Thus, you belong to the group designated as "you people". Get off your high horse.
1 [deleted] 2013-09-17
You didn't answer my question. So, if I refer to other people I will say you people, yall, or really any other way to talk to people.
3 ArchangelleShitspoon 2013-09-17
i have a DWI, a possession of marijuana charge, multiple drug paraphernalia charges, multiple driving without a license charges, and a handful of other random infractions against the law...
they still gave me a secret clearance.
then again, i grew up in the same town as the guy who did my investigation, and i had listed as a personal character reference a lady that the investigator grew up with. chances are this guy had a similar situation going on.
1 [deleted] 2013-09-17
"Chances are this guy had a similar situation going on."? I'd love to actually speculate what the actual chances are on this...I'm going to say very small. You're saying that his very specific, unique, individual experience is statistically likely to be very similar to your very specific, unique, individual experience...regardless of whether we're talking about a security clearance or going to the same school...I'd say the chances of eding up with the same experience are actually very small.
2 ArchangelleShitspoon 2013-09-17
so... since this is /r/conspiracy, and the purpose of this post was to present the possibility that the navy yard shooter was part of a conspiracy, you're assuming that the chances that this guy was given a security clearance despite a shady past are lower than the chances that he was involved in some grand scheme?
i'm just pointing out that people who have committed crimes still get cleared. i'm one of those people. i see no reason to believe that he was part of a conspiracy just because he committed crimes and got a clearance anyway.
3 buzzwell 2013-09-17
Too similar to the guy who shot up the cops in California, a well trained heavily armed black guy targeting the police/military, they both seem like boogeymen constructed to scare conservatives to reconsider the 2nd amendment
1 3DGrunge 2013-09-17
Must be constructed by the Democratic party then if they think black men are boogeymen. (they did create the kkk to lynch repubs.)
3 TheQuietOne 2013-09-17
Too know if this is a true conspiracy or not we will have to wait and see what type of legislation the legislative and executive branches of government try to push through as a result of this incident. If we see something similar to what happened after Sandy Hook and Aurora my guess is this is yet another ploy to disarm Americans. Just have to wait and see.
2 Chargersbreh 2013-09-17
If you pissed in public and got charged with disorderly conduct 20 years ago you would get denied a security clearance today. no way in fucking hell these cats had it.
2 TheSaint67 2013-09-17
The Today show said General Diacharge. So which is it?
-1 Sticky_Z 2013-09-17
He only had medium clearance
3 WeaponizedTruth 2013-09-17
Is that one step up from a medium-rare?
-5 Trogdor4U 2013-09-17
I want to talk to you guys about this. Because I heard of Fox that the governor cleared him. This fucked up government and country planned this shit out in order to take our AR-15's.
Psychological Warfare baby...God bless amerika? Fuck America Government, I'm moving out of this shit forreal. I hope Europe likes my rap and music :D

Don't come here.
