Reddit Censorship Has To Stop.

( I have since been shadowbanned from /r/conspiracy for posting this )

Reddit is a government propaganda site.

I've been censored for posting historical events directly as they are stated in academically approved history books. I've also been censored by the sports Mod for posting negative comments about his favorite team and players.

The co-founder of Reddit killed himself due to government censorship and harassment. His father says the government killed him. This is how the government got Reddit to censor people.

Former mods have exposed Reddit for forcing them to censor dissent.

Here's the proof.

This has to stop. Reddit only let's you say and hear want they allow you to.

I'm creating a website where Reddit users can upload screenshots and write about their Reddit censorship experiences as well as bad experiences they've had with mods.

I'm not looking for monetary contributions. Just checking to see if anyone wants to help contribute towards a good cause.

Worst case scenario is that if successful, these types of censorship tactics could become more widespread within journalism. Reddit may just be a litmus test to see how people react before mass implementation.

The threat of this extends beyond Reddit. This is a battle for a free society.

EDIT: If you notice, the people that disagree with me all say;

" Reddit is privately owned and has the right to censor people "

Just because something is legal does not make it right.

What kind of sheep of person defends censorship because " it's legal " ???

Especially when Reddit advertises itself as a democracy.

Reddit is an insult to free speech.

The mods think they are untouchable, so they think they can do whatever they want.

Absolutely true. Its methods of censorship are more covert than most think. Thanks for sharing.

( 15 hours after posting this my account was shadowbanned)

It goes even deeper..

I'm still compiling all their known methods.

They know that the amount of votes a submission or comment gets has the ability to influence and potentially form public opinion and they know how to manipulate this system.

Sometimes a comment or submission gets removed and you'd never know unless you signed out of your account because while signed in it appears to still be visible.

Sometimes it's not even possible to see all of the comments in a thread, even if there's only 10 or so comments ( so device memory isn't a factor).

I'm still in the process of figuring out the intricacies. I'm quite certain there's an automated algorithm working behind the scenes to filter out or flag submissions/comments.

If you get a lot of downvotes, they ask you to wait 8 minutes before replies. So it gets hard to defend your position. Maybe this doesn't affect people with a lot of karma, but for me it does. I also hate how they collapse unpopular comments.

No system is perfect, so I don't usually complain about these seemingly small things. But I feel sometimes this is done on purpose. By bending the rules, they can in a way control the discourse. Thanks for your work.

You're exactly 100% correct. It has to be subtle, but all these sanctions and restrictions add up to form one big giant censorship machine.

You have not been shadowbanned. This is demagoguery.

I was informed by a user that my comments are no longer visible and won't expand.

A leader championing the cause of the common people in ancient times??

Thanks.

A demagogue appeals to emotional and intellectual weakness through popular desires and prejudices rather than attempting rational argument. They are rhetoricians, masters of sophistry.

Your username page, /u/RedditCensorshipX, is accessible. These pages return a "not found" error when a user has been shadowbanned. I was not alerted to your comment when you replied, so it seems you have only been shadowbanned in this particular subreddit. More interesting than that is that a moderator would then have to approve your individual comments. So... one moderator removes you and another one is your guardian?

Whoever replied to this prior to my reply is shadow banned, I clicked load 1 more comment and it just disappeared.

The comments the user made in other forums also do not load. It seems the function has been updated such that shadowbanned users' profiles remain publicly accessible.

EDIT: It seems my initial suspicions were correct.

I couldn't agree more. Reddit is just another corporate owned mass media outlet.

check out this thread:

https://np.reddit.com/r/news/comments/2z4yq0/man_walking_with_girlfriend_has_throat_slashed_in/

Click on "load more comments" and see nothing appear. That means shadowbanned accounts.

First time I see not just dozens, but literally hundreds of accounts shadowbanned like that. Terrifying

I've been noticing it more and more lately. Why does reddit even leave evidence that there are comments there? If you can't view them then why even let you click the link and confuse people?

Oh my God! that's hundreds of users been banned.

When I click on the link it says;

" No participation mode, avoid voting here"

?? What's that all about.

It's because of the way he linked it, see the /np.

Good link. Thanks.

I'll post but I still want to make a site that focuses attention directly at Reddit. I want Reddit to be the focal point.

I subscribed to /r/undeleteshadow. There were so many articles that it dwarfed my other 20 or so subscribed subs.

The problem is too obvious. I think they just want to see how far they can push censorship to study how people react. It could just be a social experiment. A litmus test.

Have you seen r/worldnews today? It has been filled with so much putin propaganda that the censorship of off-agenda posts is so clear. The type of shit that gets banned there in contrast to what is currently on the subs front page makes it obvious.

The problem is the average user just isn't intelligent enough to notice or simply doesn't care.

The mods have independent control of each sub and so if you're not 'in' then you're 'out'.

This will be the death of Reddit. Once the corruption becomes totally entrenched, it will be more and more exposed. People will then flee the site in droves. I, and I am sure many more, admire the integrity of the posts on this site and the civil discourse that follows. When that is gone I am gone.

Agreed.

We're in the early stages of a Reddit exodus.

Voat looks pretty good in it's alpha stage.

I've just moved on from Reddit. Ive never experienced such a hivemind of the MSM in all my years of being online. I just stick to youtube now - more people on there know whats going on :)

I tried to explain why a war with Russia would be a bad idea and got downvoted quicker than Ive ever seen before. Sorry for thinking that American isn't invincible!

I have been banned from subreddits before (diff account) for having links that were too popular and recently a link in /r/music I was benefiting from (posted at random by another user) got stripped from the #3 spot, and replaced with a more "mainstream" news source about 8 hours later, returning to the top position.

Eventually all these censorship scandals will discredit Reddit to the point of mass exodus.

Voat is looking pretty good for only being alpha.

I just made my voat account, however it can't handle all the traffic it's getting at the moment. My account was shadowbanned a week ago for "upvoting the same comment twice" from the same IP. My husband and I have both been redditors for years and upvoted each other's comments before with no problem. The minute I start pissing people off with unpopular opinions, BANNED. To their credit they removed the ban after I bitched about it for a week, but the damage has been done. If reddit doesn't want to be an open forum that's their own prerogative, but I will definitely stop coming here once voat can handle the traffic.

unfortunately, it is actually just going to get worse as more people use the site.

Don't use it. alt.conspiracy still exist and it has no moderation.

Has to do more with mods and people not reading reddit rules then anything. The fact this post exists says enough.

Reddit is a privately owned site. That means they can do what they want with it.

I don't know why this is such a hard concept for conspiracy theorists. I thought they were usually in support of a company being able to do what it wants with its business. If Reddit wants to censor the words "red, cars, and tulips" that is its prerogative.

I really miss the days when conspiracy theory used to be an intelligent debate about facts and not children spewing whatever nonsense they come up with.

I think the point is that reddit wants you to think it's an open forum when in reality it isn't. So the conspiracy is that they are telling you that it's an open forum as long as you abide by certain rules, however the truth is that there's a lot more manipulation of the content then they'd have you believe.

Ok, but can't you start your own subreddit and mod it yourself and then allow no censorship on your subreddit? Not saying I agree with the censorship on any subreddit, but I always felt the beauty of Reddit, was if something like that happened in any subreddit, then people could just change to a different one where that didn't occur.

I support your position OP, just wanted to make that clear.

I'm also willing to contribute to your site :)

Keep up the good work !

Thanks and I'll let definitely let you know when it's up.

I'm registering the domain name. Thursday and starting to design the page.

Thanks for showing support with your vote. I appreciate it. It's refreshing to know that some people still value freedom and are smart enough to realize that it's starting to erode.

My post in /r/AskReddit was censored after the Mod said it was answered. They can't even talk about naked bodies.

While not required, you are requested to use the NP domain of reddit when crossposting. This helps to protect both your account, and the accounts of other users, from administrative shadowbans. The NP domain can be accessed by prefacing your reddit link with np.reddit.com.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

hey hit me up if you make the website, i will write about it. I write for The Anti Media brotha. Cassius Methyl on facebook. message me who you are first

Couldn't you just, you know, stop using Reddit if you're this unhappy and paranoid about it.

I'd rather help inform others. I don't want to take a head in the sand approach.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

Is this d00d?

No ???

Who the Hell down votes this comment? Lol..

Who's this? Lol

Someone came into the IRC last night complaining they had been shadowbanned along with all their accounts for talking about the U.S.S. Liberty.

Ah. Not I.

he was fun

Why, instead of insulting the party you were invited to, you write an open letter to the host? "Hello, dear admins, please stop the censorship, it will be better." Communication is so easy these days.

You're very naive if you think that would yield significant results.

Why didn't the Reddit cofounder just politely ask the government to stop censoring him?

Why doesn't Tibet just nicely ask China to leave them alone??

Just ask nicely right?

It's that easy?

Hold on, let me tell this to the Palestinians.

Reddit is public domain.

It forms public opinion.

It's pretty much a government news site that hides behind private ownership.

that sure will work

no it doesn't. it's a private company.

It's a private company only to avoid liabilities. Reddit wouldn't censor it's users to defend government interests unless it had a reason.

[deleted]

At least one what? He's not wrong.

Of course he is. The bill of rights and all subsequent legal precedent are not dismissed because a company owns a public park instead of the city. This ludicrous line of reasoning will backfire.
