VICE has become a propaganda machine.

I know it's not really news, but every new episode I watch it gets exponentially more ridiculous. In the newest episode, the first segment is about how things have gone to shit with the absence of US military presence, and they blurred the Charlie Hebdo cartoon and ask "are you nervous to be holding that?" in the second segment...VICE used to have some dope content but it's sad to see shit go south so quickly.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
VICE is propaganda for hipsters.

I thought Bill Maher had more integrity than this.

I hated their unprofessional and superficial coverage of North Korea. Since then, I knew they are just selling a narrative.

As soon as I found out Rupert Murdoch became a major stakeholder, I was like, "we're done."
3 plato_thyself 2015-06-20
Yup - and he put his son on their board. Haven't read or watched anything they put out since then.

Murdoch has a 5% stake. wouldn't call that major stakeholder.. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/press/rupert-murdoch-buys-into-alternative-media-with-a-70m-slice-of-vice-8773444.html
having his son on the board is much bigger, plus being ceo of fox..

It's more that Shane Smith is a fucking douchebag with zero personal or professional integrity.

Yeah as soon as people started linking VICE to me and streaming their pre-hbo stuff I recognized that he appealed to 12 year olds and was self-serving. Didn't like that fat braindead fuck from the first time i saw his stupid face.

Yup

Oh for sure. Be sure to drop by their Facebook page and let them know about it.

Oh, I deleted my FB account a looooong time ago, but I just slandered the fuck out of them on Twitter ha.

After the obama interview, and now roundtable discussions with a bald guy wearing glasses appearing as the smug expert that everyone listens to - yeah, I noticed it too.

Their episode on ISIS was really good, don't see how that's propaganda when it's borderline telling you the US and CIA are funding them.
1 phidel_kashflow 2015-06-20
It will be argued that they are limited hangout and that that's how the machine works. I think it can also be argued that VICE is a business and just wants viewers/readers so it's hitting what topics it feels will generate.
1 NomadicHomeBody 2015-06-20
It's a false assumption to assume that the CIA would not sponsor and pay for anti - CIA reporting. They could absolutely use that to see who stands up tallest against the CIA.
3 rurootin4pootin 2015-06-20
Bought and sold.
3 AnalogDogg 2015-06-20
I stopped watching.

Every form of media is compromised, including all conspiracy sites.
A diffrent narrative is sold at every level.
People cannot wrap around the idea of funding groups that oust the shadow government but if you want true control this is exactly what you have to do. If you can marginalize a group and the information doesn't enter mass public consciousness it doesn't matter that that group knows some truth.
1 NomadicHomeBody 2015-06-20
This is what I've been coming to see in infowars/Alex Jones lately. He's still a good source imo, but he does seem to be holding back info when it comes to Rand Paul
1 adrixshadow 2015-06-20
Infowars is not a bad source, just a compromised one. You have to sort through the bullshit for the small nugget of truth in all of them.
I am not sure about how Rand Paul wants to achieve but Ron Paul was visited by the spooks and gave up.
If Rand Paul ever has a chance at the presidency don't expect to much from him as he isn't going to grill them too hard.
He would still be a better then any other candidate as he would not be a complete puppet and a have a semblance of resistance.

Vice was created as a propaganda machine.
Propaganda is baked into the business model.
2 BadgerGecko 2015-06-20
Oh yeah i remember them pushing that shoe propaganda when they first launched
Can't look at shoes in the same way again
0 Puupsfred 2015-06-20
which one?
2 slack_attack_devival 2015-06-20
I found the timing and narrative of the Libya episode suspect
1 MemeDeLaBrows 2015-06-20
Yeah, I like the relaxed atmosphere though.
1 orrery 2015-06-20
This is news? Vice was being plugged by the MSM all of the time, just like Twitter was artificially created by media advertisement.
1 Atom_Rivers 2015-06-20
Money money money!
1 ronintetsuro 2015-06-20
VICE HAS BEEN a propaganda machine. Thanks for noticing.
oooh we found a super secret way into North Korea! Constantly! With huge professional grade cameras! And they are willing to perform complex ceremony reserved for heads of state just for our crew! We can't get any interviews with locals, but here's a human interest bit about the lonely tea girl standing guard on a lonely highway that we took pity on and played ping pong with! Thanks for watching, and buy our swag!
1 Illadelphmilk 2015-06-20
I agree. I used to like a lot of their pieces. Then I started hearing things about this and noticed Vice go down hill. Now I tend to stick with RT for most of my televised coverage.
0 Shillyourself 2015-06-20
Vice is one of the more overt tools of media manipulation.
Take a look at their articles on any given day, I can tell you off the top of my head what they are about:
I mean, for fuck's sake...they call themselves VICE.
2 infinity_QE 2015-06-20
Satanism? How. Splain that.
Also I didn't get that they were promoting hallucinogens, just talking about them. If you are referring to getting high on aids medicine (whoonga) or the scopalamine episode (burundaga) "the most dangerous drug in the world"... if you actually watched the episodes you'd know they were in no way promoting them ... except maybe to people who wanted to go insane and kill themselves.
Actually, just because VICE talks about these things doesn't mean they promote them. THey are just discussing them because that's what hipsters and young people are interested in. Surprise surprise, the modern young are interested in mind-altering substances and taboos with limited access.
If they wanted to promote hallucinogens, they'd have an episode on ayahuasca, mushrooms and ketamine--the good ones. DMT first of all, whether or not you feel they promote it is irrelevant as you will never, ever find DMT in your lifetime unless you become a chemist and spend a long time sourcing remote analogues because the easy ones you could use to make DMT are highly watched by the DEA. SO my point is that one episode is completely irrelevant unless somehow you go back in time a decade and join the cool kids in Detroit and Philadelphia.
2 Shillyourself 2015-06-20
I find it amusing that you think that what "people are interested in" is completely free of the influence of cultural engineering.
Edit: Here's a search query for "satanism" on Vice http://www.vice.com/search?query=satanism
1 infinity_QE 2015-06-20
To some degree it is. As a 12 yr old, I didn't need to be advertised to know I liked blowing shit up and dirt bikes and nintendo.
But your point is well made when poeple talk about kayne west and lady gaga
2 sabbathrules 2015-06-20
"Promoting hallucinogenic drug use"
Many so called 'drugs' are actually very therapeutic if used correctly and under supervision. Our society would be a lot more advanced and just mentally sound if we were able to properly test and/or administer these drugs in the correct setting.
0 Shillyourself 2015-06-20
I am not against hallucinogenic drug use.
I do however believe they are tools for insight and spiritual development. They should not be taken recreationally for "fun."
1 ledankmememan 2015-06-20
You know what I hate? Fundamentalist Christians. They boast about how America is a "free country" but they don't want rights for gays or rights to use drugs and whine about how people are ruining Christian "morality." Fucking hypocritical piece of shit. Fuck the US.
1 Shillyourself 2015-06-20
Did you just insinuate that I'm a fundamental Christian?
1 joe-6pak 2015-06-20
Shane Smith explains the business model here:
http://www.businessinsider.com/how-vice-makes-money-2013-11
"the revolutionary monetization strategy we found was 1950s tv"
"before it even goes online, we've made money five different ways"
0 ronintetsuro 2015-06-20
Yep, you're clear of any manipulation! Onward Christian soldier and junk.
1 Shillyourself 2015-06-20
Because I believe that satanism or rather that the psychopathic ideology who tenets are commonly referred to as "satanic" actually do exist, in no way makes me a "Christian."
You're a player in a game and you don't even know the score.
Read up on Hegelian dialectic and occult mystery schools, or put a power drill to your forehead, whichever is easier.
1 ronintetsuro 2015-06-20
Okay, that's more like it. Just dropping 'satanism' into the conversation is way too open to interpretation.
