Surprising, but not surprising at the same time. Some of these were discovered in the United States last year and top officials claimed they were installed by "hackers". What a fucking joke, and illegal invasion of privacy.

That is a terrible headline. It suggests that the surveillance towers are fake, i.e. they don't do anything. What they really mean to say is that fake mobile phone towers are being used for surveillance via IMSI catching.

Sadly, this seems to be happening a lot here in the UK and was used against Assange in the embassy - except it went wrong. Somebody forgot to reconfigure the kit and it welcomed everyone to Uganda Telecom... which is embarrassing because it a) gives the game away and b) reveals we'd done similar work in Uganda which raised awkward questions.

I'm going to look for these units and I find one I will smash it with a crowbar and take a picture with it like a hunting trophy.
