Stingray's in Montreal? An interesting thing happened today.

So I downloaded a IMSI Catcher detector about 1 month ago for my android cellphone. The app in question is called Cell Spy Catcher, it analyses cell towers to alert you if a connection is suspicious based on different criteria in place.

Today I finally received my first alert after more than a month of active use. Where it gets interesting is that I received the notification only 30 seconds after crossing two policemen who were on foot!

I know, this tech is not 100% accurate and can generate false positives but the odds of having a warning at this very moment is quite alarming to me.

I work with police in a town near montreal and i was told 1 year ago that we didnt have this tech yet. we keep in touch with other big cities around and have won numerous time the most technical city prize in north america, all cities in quebec, or hte biggest, collaborate together and we dont have this tech yet. I know because i am the one who fix these stuffs ;P

This was a year ago, do you think there could have been a development since? Especially considering that C-52 was not in place at this time a year ago, a lot may have changed since then.

I'm also curious about your rank/ access to that information. Without revealing too much, can you explain what type of access to information you have within the ranks? It seems to me that this tech might only be used by special units or isolated programs within the police force, to keep the information from leaking.

can you expand on what you do have?
