/r/Politics is in full damage control

Can't screenshot but just pop over there and look at the first few front pages. In the middle of the most important investigation in recent history against Shillary Clinton, there is very little mention of it. The few posts that do mention it are playing it off as much as possible. I understand certain subs of Reddit are biased, but it seems they aren't even trying to hide it anymore.

Holy shit its disgustingly blatant which way they lean, what a bunch of dopes.
32 TheyCallHimPaul 2016-10-31
It's terrifying. It's a look into what a huge amount of people in this country actually believe. So many people get their information solely from "news"
55 FanSciFi 2016-10-31
You have no idea. Maybe you do.
I was just in a conversation where a person stated an opinion, one in direct conflict with my own, so I asked, why do you believe that?
"I don't know"
Then why do you have an opinion on a subject you don't know about?
"I don't watch it like you do, I don't study their movements, I'm allowed to have an opinion" (she is saying this like it's a negative thing I do)
You're right, you are allowed an opinion, but if you can't back it up with facts or even a singular source for your reasoning, then it means jack shit.
"You look into it too much, I can have an opinion"
I can have the opinion that the mets are doing great this year, but I know nothing about the mets or baseball, so why should anyone listen to me?
(she frowns, shakes head in a no gesture)
Whatever. (and I walked away).
It's conversations with people like this, that make me think "Fuck it, let the country burn." They don't deserve to live. I am not even joking. They are incompetent buffoons.

As much as I agree with you, we have to realize these people are merely a product of the corrupted system we live in. They are victims of lack of education, media manipulation, and fear mongering...Although it might seem like they are complacent perpetrators, they aren't...And the last thing this country needs is for people like us to give up on the rest, we need to continue to educate in an UNBIASED manner and really work towards governmental reform.
11 FanSciFi 2016-10-31
You're not wrong, you're right. That said, there is an emotional and mental toll that comes with dealing with that type of person that is very hard to ignore, and makes continuing to fight, a damn near futile task. We have to though.
7 introspeck 2016-10-31
It is draining. I go on motorcycle trips with a group of extremely intelligent people. Most are programmers or do other intense mental work. We talk about all kinds of subjects and I learn a lot.
I never rant, but when I brought up some anomalies about how Building 7 collapsed, the shields went up. A few half-hearted responses about burning fuel tanks were given, and when I pointed out that that never brought down a steel-frame building of that design before, it was, "yeah well... conspiracy theories... yawn." And that was it. We're all friends and I'm not going to bend their ear about it - believe what you want to believe - but why would you refuse to even consider evidence? When you do that all day every day in your work? You just don't want to know, because it would be too painful.
2 RPmatrix 2016-10-31
becoz the truth hurts when you discover you've been living a Lie!
It would cause far too much cognitive dissonance for them to be able to handle in one go, so they just don't. It's easier

Of course we do. Take a half oz of shrooms and go on a hike. Or do a thumbprint.
4 Troaweymon42 2016-10-31
All presidential candidates should be made to do this, then locked in a room with their opponent. 24 hour lockdown w/ video and audio surveillance. We'd give them movies and music, but it'd be super enlightening for everyone involved. And honestly the way the election went this year it feels like somebody in TPTB has.
1 outbackdude 2016-10-31
What's a thumb print?
3 13502 2016-10-31
You cut your thumb print off and eat it, some will toast it first but its more potent raw.
Or you lick your thumb and dab it in crystal LSD and trip your balls off.

And that actually wanting to do the ACTUAL right thing would probably be a good thing to do.
Not doing anything isn't helping anyone, but potentially the people that AREN'T doing the right thing.

I'm working at it. Burying corporate fascist cunts who expose themselves to me personally as pieces of shit, is hard work that nobody wants to do. Everyone's been fucked over by some unfeeling psychopathic personality or sociopath drunk on power in the workplace. How many bury these cunts? Get to work.

The quote is not about everyone being entitled to an opinion, it is about everyone being entitled to an informed opinion.
2 Raksso 2016-10-31
I don't feel that you are correct. It's not about informed opinion it's about your values and feelings. I can debate for both sides if I want but my feelings and values determined what stupid side i choose. I rather not choose and unite the two sides instead. but what can you do?
1 elnegroik 2016-10-31
Depends entirely on the subject matter. You can win a debate on a painting or a song using your values and feelings just fine. But that's about it, barring some other similar examples. The problem begins when opinions borne of 'values and feelings' aka biases, begin to inform popular opinion (seeMSM ) Then youve allowed the subjective to override objectivity. The same goes for a debate - one guy argues a point he's formulated with info derived from 1st hand sources, literature and other media he's fastidiously gathered around the topic. Other fella turns up feeling really passionate about the subject, confident in himself but doesn't actually know squat.- whose your money on? And furthermore how can you expect to ever engage in reasonable discourse in that fashion? The mind boggles, honestly.

-1 Smoothtank 2016-10-31
I know this is going to be a hated and unpopular opinion, but the decay of the country coincides with the women's lib movement. Women aren't intellectually equipped to vote responsibly. It's just not in their makeup to support a system that rewards success and allows failure to happen, so they can't be relied upon to vote intelligently.
We can be a fair society or a thriving society, but we'll never be both.
1 FanSciFi 2016-10-31
I, controversially, agree, but would state, it's not a gender thing, it's groups that believe they are right, and are violent and loud against any and all that disagree.

12 setadoon177 2016-10-31
On the contrary, I think it's a crazy look into what can be pumped into the airwaves to promote a false narrative. I've never seen it in real life, only heard about it from Soviet or German or japanese propaganda. It's incredible. We are witnessing history.
35 DocHopper-- 2016-10-31
What you and the majority of the American people fail to realize, is that you've been witnessing a manufactured false narrative your whole entire life. Everything you know is dictated and approved by the US government. What you were taught in public schools to believe, virtually all of what you know history as, all of the prevailing opinion that you have- it's all been regulated and presented to you with the approval of the government. You heard the rumblings from "fringe conspiracy theorists" your whole life and wrote it all off as paranoid bullshit because that is the line fed you by the mainstream. Now with the technology available to us and the advent of the Internet, more people are realizing the propaganda they have been brainwashed with their entire lives is actually the polar opposite of the way things really are. You see "reputable sites" like Google and YouTube have obvious agendas and the power to convey information to the masses in a certain way, and you witness in real time the censorship and manufacturing of sentiment, and you have to think back about how much bullshit we were always told to believe without question by the media and think how different society should be.
We are not merely "witnessing history," it's more like we are "just noticing now what has been happening throughout history."
2 setadoon177 2016-10-31

It's a look into how a huge amount of money can make people think they're supposed to believe something. There are still lots of duped people out there, but the brazenness of their propaganda and corruption is opening more eyes to this farce.
2 fat_osvaldo 2016-10-31

7 fat_osvaldo 2016-10-31
Just looking at the headlines of the articles you get the sense that you're in a spin zone with how they make judgements about the facts instead of reporting them. And then you look at the sources people are posting and theyre the EXACT ones Wikileaks shows as colluding with the campaign.
If I wasn't already locked in that I believe there is a lot significant to this scandal, I'd feel like I was being gaslighted.
4 SQUID_FUCKER 2016-10-31
Yesterday when the warrant news broke, they started posting all sorts of bullshit that was getting to the front page over it. Including a Mike Pence article...from 1998. Multiple 'polls' and Huff Po op ed pieces. Yet they were deleting news of the warrant getting issued until it was unavoidable. Then they finally let one through, of course it was the one with the disclaimer in the headline about the Hatch Act being violated. It's absurd how biased they are. What's worse, I don't so much mind the bias, is the outright denial of the bias from users who never leave the front page. Things like, 'Oh, all the anti-Trump stuff is getting upvoted because that's what the community is voting for!' Yeah, because literally everything else is removed for bullshit reasons. You have 5 articles talking about the same letter to Comey about the Hatch Act 'violation' yet delete new and pertinent information because, 'oh this belongs in that megathread we buried. We won't actually put it there though and good luck trying to dig it up.'
2 explaainer 2016-10-31
This sub is exactly the same in the opposite direction. Try and make a rational defense of any accusation against HRC, regardless of how absurd it is.

0 H-12apts 2016-10-31
Well, if you allow Fox News to lead its viewers into supporting the Iraq War, the Tea Party, and Donald Trump, you'll ending up joining the enemy and using its tactics.
Clinton is doing what she has to do to win the nomination (appealing to the Republican voters, etc.). All this blatant "shilling" will die down by next Tuesday when Trump gets beaten by a woman.
54 SafelyNeutral 2016-10-31
Lol I never liked either candidate but /r/Politics had me sickened to where I made myself sub to /r/The_Donald just so my front page had SOME sort of balance. Like.... wtf?? I have to sub to a sub dedicated 100% to one candidate just to balance out /r/Politics' bias.

1 SafelyNeutral 2016-10-31

1 BurntoutNinja 2016-10-31
The true way to find balance isn't by reading articles on either sub and cross-referencing, the media industry is so co-opted on either end that the only way you can truly get balanced news is finding a third non politically affiliated source to compare stories with.
/r/politics is a mainstream sub with over 3 millions subscribers. Most everyday people who are into politics and surf Reddit are going to be liberal. The site seems to attract a mostly younger crowd and mostly younger people tend to vote democrat.
It makes sense that there's an over saturation of "shills" (most people aren't paid shills, they're just people who follow mainstream propaganda) and mainstream newstories.
There are paid shills. The revelation of CTR (Correct the Record) has proven that. But I believe that groups like this exist more as herding mechanisms to direct the already loyal followers to more specialized and non-dissenting points of their already created narrative. Even without these paid astroturfers, the majority that subscribe to /r/politics are already so loyal to the mainstream media that they don't really need any guidance to continue the push of propaganda and many of them don't see any reason to change their views. It's comfortable to be in conformity.
/r/the_donald is a containment sub for people that feel that the mainstream has forsaken them. The only thing is that this is just another mainstream. An "alternate" main stream. This is where people with dissenting opinion flock. It's also just a means to get an establishment candidate elected. It has stories about the Wikileaks (which are important) and a lot of other egregious things our government has been participating in, and that's great. It's main function is to get a candidate elected. Read into it, but don't trust it as gospel. There are likely just as many misleading and slanted stories.
Both campaigns put millions into their campaigns and Hillary just happened to run in a party that has a stranglehold on the mainstream media. /r/politics was there for any democrat that ran.
Basically what I'm trying to get at is that both sides will flock to one source or another. The red and blue parties are propaganda machines and if you want to maintain balance and neutrality you have to cross reference both parties output with any unbiased sourced info you can come across.
They are both mainstream so always take everything with a grain of salt.
2 SafelyNeutral 2016-10-31
Right, thanks for the concern! To clarify, I don't disagree with you in that both subs are mainstream and, also, I don't endorse /r/the_donald. With that, I take all content from either sub with a half pound of salt.
Also, I'm aware that reddit is predominantly progressive folks but I'm still very surprised to see that 100% of the posts in /r/politics are pro Hillary. I'm very skeptical to believe that she actually has this following and I'm also skeptical of the measure of the following. I understand that it's natural for reddit to have a strong lean towards the democratic candidate, but the constant and fervent posting for Hillary is questionable.
38 USA_ALPHA_MALE 2016-10-31
That sub is oddly dead now compared to the last couple weeks. CTR must have had its funding diverted to Clinton's legal defense fund lol.
8 chi-hi 2016-10-31

1 I_Fuck_Milk 2016-10-31
Or maybe they're waiting for word on how to spin this from higher up and haven't figure out how to do it yet.
0 Ahem_Sure 2016-10-31
Considering Hillary won't say a word without having a discussion over her stance (After fall when she left Chelseas "what happened Hillary?" Silence. Had to figure out what excuse to give officially. How is it you can't comment on something about yourself unless you aren't honest?). It has to be perfect so it doesn't expose some other lie in her web.
So when this happened the CTR people work the same way. They could be told to keep shilling other issues and talking points, but they would run the risk of encountering that issue and being exposed by their sudden silence. So they are likely waiting on their marching orders.
1 I_Fuck_Milk 2016-10-31
Yeah it takes longer to respond when you're always lying and have to put a story together.
19 TaintedSquirrel 2016-10-31
Wikileaks has now been releasing emails for more than 2 weeks and the only story about it to reach their frontpage was Podesta's risotto recipe.

8 PierreDeLaCroix 2016-10-31
It's pretty hilarious for me
In high school I joined DailyKos out of opposition to the Iraq War - but when that got too conservative for me (they couldn't handle criticism of Obama/Clinton from the left); I migrated to pre-CTR r/politics.
Then when CTR took over there during the tail end of the primaries I followed /u/NebraskaGunOwner over to /r/HillaryForPrison.
It was short hop from there to here.
What I'm trying to say is that there's a lot of people like me who were smart but whose knowledge and sources were still considered "inbounds". In the age of the Internet, however, bullshit is exposed in real time.
There's a small window within which the tools and power of the internet still outstrip the capacities of the powers that be to control is using it. It is vital that we make the most of this time! Thanks to all of y'all for keeping the lights on for the wanderers

The Hillary evil camp are shameless to the core. They show themselves only when needed. Debbie "skank" Wasserman-Shultz is a perfect example. Some unnamed source said that someone close to Trump has financial ties with someone in Russia, and they are losing their shit over it. All the shit in the Wikileaks however, all the money the Clinton's have raked in from foreign, oppressive dictators??? Crickets
1 TheyCallHimPaul 2016-10-31
I have many back and forth arguments between this guy I have on Facebook. He's one of those "woke" people who, immediately after reading an article, begins to chastise people who haven't seen through the "bullshit" and pretty much only posts statuses that he feels would best represent someone who's deep and "woke." I've argued so much with him that Clinton is BY FAR the worst candidate. He's always backed her 100%, calling Trump a nazi-racist evil disgusting person, (You know, exactly what someone would say if they were led by MSM) and recently said, and I'm paraphrasing but this is the main idea, "I don't see the significance in her emails and their contents. That's just politics. Her environmental record and relationship with bankers are the problem." And I basically said that the attacks on her environmental record and relationship with bankers is troublesome for her, yes, but the emails are the glue holding everything together. She can have whatever batshit ideas and opinions and crazy policy proposals she wants, but the emails prove that whatever evil shit she has in her mind, she is 100% comfortable doing just that. I don't know what worse, people blindly following the news and what it tells them, or people who are doing the exact same thing except with an indignation toward the exact people whose shit they're eating.
1 boomer95 2016-10-31
If he doesn't see the significance in the emails, and thinks Hillary is by far the best candidate, he's obviously not "woke." My guess is he gets his news from Rachel Madcow. All he needs to hear is her sweet, soothing voice tell him, "The content of the emails is not important. All that matters is that they're from Russia, and Russia is just doing this to influence our election for Trump the Nazi. Russia. Russia. Russia." And your friend probably hears that and grabs his bottle of Jergens and starts jerking off.

Exactly. I feel like it's worse that way because most people don't have any idea and admit it but he thinks he does so he has motivation to shove it down throats as much as possible. I don't know man this dude is straight up like /r/im14andthisisdeep except he's in his 20's and with an "anarchy" theme. I mean this guy posted a long as fuck status a few days ago about his "dream" the night before, and it was OBVIOUS that it was completely fabricated to make him seem "above all the sheep." He also uses the fuck out of the term "sheep."
Here's some copy/pasted statuses. (Note the flagrant absence of capital letters) The last one is actually the one that made me think he actually might have some kind of mental illness.
I agree the police need to shape the fuck up, but a wealthy white kid from the suburbs saying fuck the police just bothers me.
Again. Privaledged white dude. (not being racist against my own race it's just a fact that should be noted)
Yeah that sounds like a real dream.
........
let us all give a moment of silence for the poor souls in the secret service that are tasked with protecting such a wretched creature like Drumpf.
so i applied to starbucks in 5 locations. all that i've got from them is 3 different calls asking if i want to go to college or graduate school right now. IM LOOKING FOR A JOB!!! NOT STUDENT DEBT YA GITZ!!!! the first two i politely said nah. the third one... well if they are going to waste my time, i'll return the favor. i started talking about how the universities are run like businesses now, how the student loan debt is becoming an economic bubble that i don't want to be a part of, and how the marketing is pressuring and funneling people into a profit motive system that has taken over academic settings. i love how they can be so polite yet give off the sound of desperation to hang up at the same time. ahhhhh music to my ears. trolling telemarketers. they aren't even with starbucks. they just got my number from starbucks corporation. marketing ass wipes. gosh.
my okcupid profile is me wearing the most hippie outfit i could possibly wear. the only text is an essay on police brutality and how civil rights is an economics movement.
i was buying batteries at CVS and noticed that the duracell ones had a hard plastic lock device stopping me from sliding the pack off the metal bar shelf thing and written on it were instructions to get a employee to unlock it. i looked below it and saw the same type of batteries without the plastic lock. i picked them up and realized they were CVS brand batteries. It struck me as a manipulative marketing ploy that is trying to take advantage of my human programming. a sociology trick to funnel me into CVS brand. i was annoyed to such an extent that i didn't even want to go through the small trouble of waving down an employee. i noticed that the duracell pack was thin cardboard and so i just ripped it off lightly and bought the pack at the register. no problem. i assume most people would just buy the CVS brand though. i'm no sheep you marketing f***wits! get wrect ya monopolist capies. (capitalists=capies)
And I'm pretty sure he comes on here so Michael if you see this post, stop this shit. You're making us sound like insane people.

Lol not sure thats a valid reason at all. So you're basically supporting Shillary because some mods on Reddit got you butthurt? Even though the same thing would've happened on an HRC run sub?
1 avohec 2016-10-31
That person is a shill. No one is that stupid.
-4 BoRhap86 2016-10-31
I believe it is now out of our control. Only the Risen Jesus can save us now. I will not be voting as I am leaving it all in the hands of Jesus.
Praise the Lord!

I'm done with it. This is the last day of media consumption for me and the first day of a good life, well at least I hope. It all stinks. It's all compromised. I see the manipulation everywhere. I feel it in every comment thread and every time I turn on the TV. I tried, like many others, to stop it, to do something to help people realize the control and the falsehoods, the lasting terrors and the humanity of every human face. But it's time for us to go. They are not leaving us behind. We are leaving them behind. It's our journey and it's their prison. Those who broke the chains let them go with us in truth and in love. Those who only gilded their chains, let them eat each other in madness and despair. Take care all.

2 BoRhap86 2016-10-31
I realised that it was only the Risen Jesus who can save us a few days ago, when I had a Marian apparition in my living room as I was watching some YouTube footage on my personal computer of Mr Donald Trump reacting to the FBI's reopening of the investigation on Mrs Hillary Clinton.
The apparition told me that only the Lord Jesus Christ is able to take care of the United States of America, as both Mr Trump and Mrs Clinton are agents of one of the fallen angels who have been trying to get a stronger foothold within the government. I was told some very important information which I am not at complete liberty to disclose because of the nature of the agents of evil involved. But I can reveal now for the first time that both Mr Trump and Mrs Clinton sometimes wear each others' suits, and they have been interchanging themselves without us even knowing. As Frank the Rabbit told Donnie Darko, "why are you wearing that stupid man suit?".
I was told that I will in the future be playing a crucial role in bringing more followers to realise that Jesus Christ is our only and rightful President.
Praise the Lord!
-4 assrocket 2016-10-31
that's because the investigation is bullshit
-7 spatimouth01 2016-10-31
hmmm who to pick... a person who's dumped some emails that where most likely too sensitive for the public, or a guy who's being investigated for having sex with a 13yr old..... oh the choices....
1 elnegroik 2016-10-31
Nobody round here bothers to reply to comments like that anymore. So I will.... and I've done so.
1 spatimouth01 2016-10-31
You responded because you are a horrible human. You know this, you embrace it and ignore anything that would ruin whatever image you've built up inside your mind that would knock it down. You are an embarrassment to your country and race. You know it as absolute fact..
1 TheyCallHimPaul 2016-10-31
Lmao
1 spatimouth01 2016-10-31
So you would rather have a child raper as president.. you are a sick fuck.
0 TheyCallHimPaul 2016-10-31
Not sure if trolling but if you are you're pretty shitty at it. 1st of all its nothing but rumors. Rumors coming out about a candidate as controversial as Trump and this close to election cannot be avoided. Also it's rapist, not raper. You fucking retard.
1 spatimouth01 2016-10-31
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raper
"A raper, or rapist, is someone who commits rape."
You seem like the type of person who has very questionable morals, dignity and intelligence....

Yo, not only did you respond to yourself with the same link twice, you posted an accusation. That's not proof. Try again.
1 spatimouth01 2016-10-31
Yah but you're one of the endless idiots who support Hilary going to jail without hearing any evidence.....
Based off of Thump's character and his connections to Putin.... I can completely believe her claims.
Also, he's due in court for racketeering charges as well.....
Anyone who supports this lame dickhead deserves what they get in the future.
1 avohec 2016-10-31
Hillary has proof of criminal activity, Trump has accusations. I'm done debating though, had enough of CTR this week.

night comrade!

It's terrifying. It's a look into what a huge amount of people in this country actually believe. So many people get their information solely from "news"

Fantastic, the kind of thinking we need to move forward civilly in an uncivilized new world.
11 FanSciFi 2016-10-31
You're not wrong, you're right. That said, there is an emotional and mental toll that comes with dealing with that type of person that is very hard to ignore, and makes continuing to fight, a damn near futile task. We have to though.

This sub is exactly the same in the opposite direction. Try and make a rational defense of any accusation against HRC, regardless of how absurd it is.
2 BasketOfDeplorable 2016-10-31
t_d is for Hillary news pol is for Trump news.
