This is why they did Scalia.

At some point, (I don't know exactly when, seems unclear from the videos), the DNC realized that O'Keefe's team had infiltrated them (hence the returned check) and probably figured out that enough evidence had been caught about vote-rigging to cast doubt on the election results.
They knew they still had to rig it, but would face credible legal challenges from Trump's team, almost no-matter-what.
At this point, it's bound to turn into a legal battle, but with hysteria so high on both sides, it seems likely that it eventually will go to SCOTUS, just like it did in 2000. This is why the Republicans refused to even consider a nominee until after the election, and why the Democrats have been relatively quiet about it.

I like this approach. Your logic could still hold even if it's not directly about the O'Keefe videos.

thanks- yeah, not necessarily sold on that one detail, but it seems clear that if you were thinking about the endgame all along that seems like a really likely way for it to pan out...

Agreed. You don't take the measures the DNC has taken only to accept defeat due to not getting the neccassary votes.
They will do anything and everything they have to do in order to win. A SCOTUS decision will be the only way this ends.
I can see at least the following scenario:
Claim the Russians hacked the machines to make it look like Hillary cheated.
Trumps Bro, Putin, hacked the machines and configured weighted votes for HRC at a 1.1 or 1.2 ratio.
Claim that the Russian hackers then flipped a large number of HRC votes to offset her weighted votes, leaving DJT as the winner.
Or something along those lines.

Scalia was killed because he opposed Obama's Clean Power Plan...

Good thinking that explains why there were those weird emails from Podesta around Scalia death. His vote would be pivotal in contested result, so Podesta strong motive.
