Most ancient legends have 2 things in common, a giant flood and a northern race of giants. In the late 1890s and 1930s hundreds of ancient giant skeletons were found throughout New England and parts of the South East, in North America.

I thought this was proven to be a hoax by religious zealots because it fits their biblical narrative. I found no proof of those giant skeletons being authentic.

Most of this cable TV alt-history - from Ancient Aliens, America Unearthed et al originates from long debunked Victorian hoaxes. A lot of this current resurrecting of old hoaxes seems to be motivated by proving that Europeans made it to America before the Asians did(becoming NA's), or that at least everything civilized about NA culture was gleaned from contact w Europeans. That people are so drawn to these "possibilities" just shows how far backward American culture and education has gone.

My favorite one is how (even though Native Americans did mine copper) the ancient abandoned copper mines in the northern US and Canada were mined by Minoans.

Another hilarious one is from the nut Scott Wolter(America Unearthed) who found the ruins of a spring-house in the woods and claimed it was a masonic ritual space.

Yes and no. First, the whole thing largely has to with the fact that books were laid out from very early on based on known ratios, for instance the square root of 2. So that makes other related ratios more likely to be found. (and those ratio have been known long before names were put to them.) Second, there is the reverse engineering, to take various measures and arrange them until you find something close enough to a known constant. These figures are all relatively small and not too hard to arrive at with enough lines and minor fudging. Lastly typesetters hand crafted covers, so the creator may have further used some measures to make things symmetric and look good thus leading to other embedded ratios.

Taken all together, at best maybe there was a "coinkidink" with the placement of one period, that just happened in to fall into the right place to produce a common ratio (albeit imprecisely), but nothing more.

If you have a ruling shadow government going back hundreds of years (that we know of), including ancient institutions such as the church... don't you think they'd be very much interested in painting their own version of the truth to the masses?
