Because when it's night time, the sky is facing the wrong way, away from the sun. Hence, night. If they're in the path of the sun, then during the day they'd be hidden behind blinding sunlight and atmosphere. But with a solar eclipse...

Well, the honest truth is that we better figure out a way TO do it on our own. Figuring that dynamic out is likely the proof of our evolution as a species that's needed in order to ultimately foster open ET contact. Seems to me that THAT'S the test. If we can figure out a way to get past all the fucking stupid bullshit that's been indoctrinated into us and wecan learn to work as one united species, THEN I imagine all the other societal and civilizational dominos will fall into place necessary to foster open ET contact.

If we can't figure it out...then honestly my feeling is "fuck us, then". If humanity can't get its shit together and figure out how to put all the bullshit religious, doctrinal, race-related, socioeconomic problems aside, then yeah..."fuck us". I say we don't deserve ET contact. I mean what are we going to do? What do we expect? We can't handle our own shit down here - how the fuck do we expect us to handle things out there? Gotta figure that out first. "You can lead a horse to water but you can't do the drinking for it" kind of thing...and it doesn't matter how many beings show us the way to water. It's up to us to figure things out and actually drink ON OUR OWN.

When tracking asteroids, we can only see the ones that pass between the earth and the sun, along with some larger ones composed of highly reflective material. If there is a 1000 mile wide asteroid made purely of lead that has an orbit outside of earth orbit, we have no idea about it.
