The 1.5M penguin colony in Antarctica...

You know how animals can sense storms, earthquakes, etc. long before humans can? If the ice caps were in such despair, why would animals continue reproducing there at such a rate?
I'm not necessarily proposing a conspiracy, but am interested in the responses. If none come maybe I'll ask r/science or eli5.

Penguins aren’t used to sensing global warming like they are storms. They’ve been through many storms, while global warming is a recent phenomenon.

Global warming is something you can see (and collect) the data for yourself.

They still would have melted even if humans never existed. We're coming out of the last ice age. 80% of Earth's history we've had no polar caps. We've only been keeping reliable records of the caps for roughly 100 years. Not much to compare. The real question is are they melting at a faster rate because of human activity? Or is this all just scare tactic?
All these 'scientists' have been making these outlandish predictions for the last 30 years and nothing ever comes true. 10 years ago they said my country would be in a nation wide drought in 10 years and it's all total bullshit. These people aren't that much different to the religious fanatics who predict the apocalypse every 2 years. Eventually people are gonna stop paying attention.

You don’t have to do live recording to study past conditions. And the predictions are coming true, faster than expected.
I hope you’re right and it’s all a hoax, but from the data I’ve seen it appears to be a real threat, and it appears to be caused in part by human activity.

I have a question. Why does it matter if it’s “not our fault” if it will be catastrophic and we have the power to mitigate it?
1 whiterabbitobj46 2018-03-03
If it’s not our fault and is just the natural cycle of our planet and/or sun, we will just have to adapt. We can’t stop the planet from re-emerging from an ice age
1 afooltobesure 2018-03-03
What if we’re speeding the process up? (We are)

It's possible, however there isn't any empirical evidence linking rising atmospheric CO2 levels with global warming/climate change.
1 afooltobesure 2018-03-03
CO2 is far from the most dangerous greenhouse gas or contributor to global warming. Flourinated gases are quite a bit worse.
And there’s plenty of empirical evidence linking their production and emission to climate change.
Here’s some: https://www.ucsusa.org/global-warming/science-and-impacts/science/temperature-is-rising#.Wpt7LP9lCaM
Will reply with more shortly.

Correlation does not equal causation. The evidence doesn't look good but there's no direct link between the two.
Ice caps are melting on Mars too, with planets in the solar system increasing in surface temperature. The sun goes through cycles just like the Earth with warmer periods and cooler periods. https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070228-mars-warming.html
Either way, we need to move to a reliable renewable energy source eventually. Fossil fuels are not going to last forever. I'd like to see this shift happen for that reason rather than the "we're all gonna drown and boil to death" hysteria.

Here’s a good interactive chart: https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2015-whats-warming-the-world/
While it isn’t conclusive proof, I’d say it’s a pretty strong correlation, and I don’t think natural climate change is causing increased greenhouse gas emissions.
Yes, the climate does change in cycles. We know this courtesy of science, the same science that generally says humans are contributing to climate change.

I think you're confusing global warming with climate trends... There's been ice ages and nice ages.. It doesn't mean we don't contribute, but this planet has been playing with its own thermostat since the beginning.. You can collect all the data you want, but global warming caused solely by humans, is fear mongering..
Do you really think that if burning fossil fuels, and not carpooling really made a difference we would even have a choice in the matter? Every world leader has a jumbo jet, everything you consume has to be transported at some point, the rich need to get richer, and that isn't going to change...
Now let that sink in, obviously they aren't that worried about it..
1 afooltobesure 2018-03-03
Humans are almost certainly a contributing factor in the increase in global temperatures and more extreme weather patterns. Or at least that’s what the data shows.
1 Justsaguy12345 2018-03-03
You say that with the confidence that I do when I know something is 100% true. But I don't believe there will be another flood.
1 squirtlekid 2018-03-03
First off its climate change and not "global warming". Secondly, climate change has never been a new phenomenon, in fact its something that naturally occurred since Earth began, sorry to burst your bubble

I'd start there instead of a conspiracy sub
1 Putin_loves_cats 2018-03-03
Why? That sub is nothing but propaganda for the religion of $cience.
1 ridestraight 2018-03-03
Can you imagine the aroma there? There must be a gazillion tonnes of guano - a start-up for a fertilizer company!
1 Putin_loves_cats 2018-03-03
I smell that shit from way up here!
Fun Fact: If an island has guano, you can seize it and claim it as a US territory, per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guano_Islands_Act.

I pray to God penguins are not the source of meat for fake seafood salad.

It’s cow stomach. True.
1 highplainswolfpack 2018-03-03
I feel duped if it is. How could it be flavored as fish? What kind of crazy scientist could make cow stomach taste like sea creatures?
1 SomeSuperMegaNiceGuy 2018-03-03

They are preparing to dominate the world. TPTB are terrified of them and all those high level officials who have visited Antarctica only went to sacrifice fish as an offering to them.

1 marywasalizard 2018-03-03
Global warming/cooling is natural. Penguins won't be able to detect the small changes over a small period of time. If they can, what can they do about it? It's not like they can all get a passport to Canada, ey?
The debate on climate change just shows how arrogant the human race is. "Oh look at us, we're so special we've changed an entire planets' environment"...No. If you studied the dinosaurs' impact on the environment it would probably show they were having an effect. Well, whatever they did to piss off that comet must have been pretty bad.
1 YonicSouth123 2018-03-03
Ask the penguins what's wrong with their senses... they even can't predict the weather for 4 weeks accurately... Perhaps for your interest the ice caps on the North pole are more effected by global warming, maybe ask the polar bears, why they are more often going on land looking for food and why their population drops... After that you will possibly find out that both have different forms of gathering Food and the one is more relying on ice shelfs than the other, because one of them can spend days or months swimming in the sea while the other can't..
