This subreddit should have Daily General Discussion Threads
16 2018-03-06 by toastertexas
For anybodyelse who reads r/hiphopheads , every day the have a general discussion thread for chatting about anything. As a casual broswer and occasional posted in r/conspiracy, I think it would be really great to see something like that implemented here -- somewhere for discussing the rabbit holes people are going through on the daily basis.
I don't use reddit enough to make these threads myself, but I think this subreddit would really benefit from it and I hope others might take it upon themselves to start threads like this. Perhaps this could be the first of those threads. Here are some prompts to get us started:
What's your latest conspiracy obsession? For me, I've been watching The Code of the Pyramids on Netflix and am constantly having my mind blown. Highly recommend it for those interest in alternative takes on history.
What was the conspiracy that first got you hooked? It all goes back to Nessie - when I was in 5th grade I was obsessed. Then came UFOs - those are still a favorite.
How have your conspiracy beliefs changed over time? Loved the far-out nessie, bigfoot stuff as a kid, then i went through a phase of being a hardcore skeptic, but these days, these strangest things seem possible.
What's a conspiracy that you used to believe in, but now doubt? I'll admit I got sucked into flat earth for a minute there, but knocked myself out of it with some physics lessons.

How is this even possible?

you research it to try to disprove it like you should. then you find lots of stuff that is hard to explain. then you find out how much THEY lie. then your confused as fuck.
honestly if your not agnostic on the whole subject you are probably wrong.

What's hard to explain about the flat vs round earth?
1 swordofdamocles42 2018-03-06
try looking at it from the point of proving globe earth.... there lots of weird stuff as i'm sure you know.
for example the blue marble.... and how there should be lots of pictures of low earth orbit satellites but there isn't.
i'm not a FE er by the way.... but how would you prove the earth is a globe.... this is my best effort https://www.startpage.com/do/dsearch?query=Belt+of+Venus&cat=web&pl=opensearch&language=english

Why should there be lots of pics of LEO satellites?
By the simple fact that my horizon is limited, as I cannot see buildings or countries far away which should otherwise be visible if not obstructed by the Earths curve.
1 swordofdamocles42 2018-03-06
Why should there be lots of pics of LEO satellites? your kidding right. its should be easy to see them and take a picture. there are zero
the curvature thing is debunked.... https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=flat+earth+zoom+boat.
you obviously have not bothered to research both sides of the argument.... so you are wrong by default.

What kind of photo are you expecting?
The ISS is a humongous satellite but even it only appears as a point of light, unless you've got an advanced camera set-up capable of seeing some detail.
You will never see most satellites.
No it's not.
My name here is celebrity. I've done my research.
1 swordofdamocles42 2018-03-06
soooooooo you have never heard of camaras that can take pictures of things far away.... jog on mr celebrity.

Did you even read my post? I literally said "unless you've got an advanced camera-telescope rig capable of seeing some detail."
No wonder you fell for the flat Earth nonsense!

i think i will be blocking you.

You don't even know what it is you're linking.

Lol this whole exchange is a goddamn dumpster fire.

Why would there be lots of photos? Its a fridge sized object or smaller that is black on a black background thousands of miles away.
Also use your eyes, I can see satellites move across the sky at night. Hell people have taken photos of the ISS from the ground that clearly show what it is.
And heres an example (Of many) that show curvature.
A ship was filmed on high zoom going over the horizon.
1 swordofdamocles42 2018-03-06
ok
but how whould you go about proving globe earth. it should be a lot easier than it is.
(remember i'm not a flat earther)
have you got any pics of isis from the ground? i can't find any that look real.
1 WadeWilsonforPope 2018-03-06
I gave you several examples of phenomena that only work if the Earth is a globe, including a method to determine the size with the above link.
This is a problem. Any photo evidence I give you will be called fake because you dont think it looks real. SO whats the point?
I can find plenty that look normal.
1 swordofdamocles42 2018-03-06
wow that was weak.. this is why this whole conspiracy exists. because its hard to prove globe earth.
1 WadeWilsonforPope 2018-03-06
It is if you just ignore all the points made and use ad hominems to dismiss arguments.

"Why would there be lots of photos? Its a fridge sized object or smaller that is black on a black background thousands of miles away."
but just a few words later you said
"I can see satellites move across the sky at night. Hell people have taken photos of the ISS from the ground"
This is called cognitive dissonance.
1 WadeWilsonforPope 2018-03-06
How so? There are pics of the iss from the ground and you never actually challenged any points I made.
Do you think you can see a satellite traversing the sky? Why or why not?
1 dystopian_love 2018-03-06
You claimed satellites wouldn't be visible in photos because they are small black objects against a black background but then you claimed to be able to see these small black objects against a black background with your own eyes.
1 WadeWilsonforPope 2018-03-06
Have you never thought to investigate what they are?
Nothing about being able to see the ISS?
This doesnt make sense to you because you havent bothered to investigate even the barest bit about the world around you.
Can you please talk about what those lights in the sky are and why we can take a photo of the ISS?
Can you also tell us what benefit taking photos of objects we can track is?
1 dystopian_love 2018-03-06
Why are you pressing me to put a label onto something that I have no way of discovering myself? I have no way of flying to that altitude and discerning what is traveling up there, so until I can do so, I'm just taking another person's word for it. If person A tells me it's a satellite because person B told them it was a satellite and they trust the opinion of person B, that doesn't make it a satellite.
1 WadeWilsonforPope 2018-03-06
You do, you could figure this out with an afternoons worth of effort.
Just like how you think computers are magic because you cant shrink yourself down and see an electron move through a CPU logic gate, right?
You see how ridiculous it is to denounce everything you cant see or feel, right?
Again extend this logic to anything else and see how ridiculous it sounds.
1 dystopian_love 2018-03-06
Your analogy doesn't work because I can pull apart a computer and build it back up again in order to know it. I can't do the same with the things in the air that we are discussing. You might say that we don't need to physically interact with a satellite to know it and to know how it works, but when you don't trust person B, and they are the authority on satellites, then you might be a little skeptical.
1 WadeWilsonforPope 2018-03-06
So you have an electron microscope and verified that how electrons flow is what youve been told?
I find that hard to believe, sounds to me you are taking someone elses word for it... For all you know computers are magic because you havent seen or experienced how they work at the atomic level.
No... This is dumb simple to figure out. The data we get from satellites can only come from a high altitude object moving very fast.
You dont trust authorities but you have all the tools to verify this yourself.
Why havent you?

One way hey obfuscate is whith single topic issues.
Sure they might come up with a reasonable explanation with regards to one phenomena but when you put their whole world into a model it falls to shit.
1 iemploreyou 2018-03-06
I think this is a good idea. Most other subs I frequent do this.
1 mr_dong 2018-03-06
How about we introduced a weekly discussion thread initially, this could be handled by the automod and rolled out once a week for readers to discuss anything related to conspiracy and alternative news?
1 billynlex 2018-03-06
Can't we just have a daily GOP/Trump thread where all the inane bullshit that gets posted ad nauseam is collected so we can get back to real conspiracies?
1 swordofdamocles42 2018-03-06
