He'd also researched SWAT response and how to remove info from laptop hardrives. That's all public above board stuff.
My assumption is that the girlfriend set this up, then robbed him and left the country, calling him when she was long gone at which point he shoots himself in the head. He'd planned a standoff with swat, was taking shots at responders, and had cameras outside his room. His premature suicide is quite strange without some outside factor.
