Why is r/conspiracy so slow now?

4  2018-04-19 by skywalker2828

I remember when it used to be very busy with so many comments, but it's a ghost town now. Where did everyone go?

Cause it's clogged with shitposts about current politics

this is it. I think a lot of us have been seeking other sources for our conspiracy fix, with this subreddits content being clogged with trash

I hate to read about politics. so boring.

Do you ever go in to r/movies and complain at them any time you see people talking about cinematography? Because that's what you're doing by complaining about government conspiracies in r/conspiracy.

Haven't done that, yet. I love government conspiracies though. But I keep the right of considering politics boring and old age stuff.

Coz the mods don't do shit.

Removed. Rule 10.

Yeah you're right. When there was submission statements this place used to be pretty entertaining. I miss staying up late at night reading conspiracies.

It made it really hard for monetized spammers to spam. It made it hard for limp dick political trolls to spam us.

We required that you think before you speak. And the user you are responding to is not only a known monetized user, but also complaining that we asked people to think before you speak.

Ya...if all we were was spam and trolls, we deserved to die.

But if they got rid of the ss mods wouldn't be able to arbitrarily remove posts.

That's what pushed me away. Not a big fan of mods using behavioral psychology to control discourse.

"Let's make our users jump through hoops so they post less!"

That was my fear, more than spammers. We've seen what has happened elsewhere on Reddit and it isn't for the best of the users.

I used to contribute multiple articles daily and would editorialize my titles to the point where a SS wasn't necessary. Also adding additional information and links when the implications weren't clear. Being compelled to write a submission statement is off-putting and makes it feel like a chore.

Totally I feel the same way. I like or preferred the free flow of information and felt bad submissions could be downvoted as needed by the crowd.

The government in league with an interstellar faction of robot aliens has been scheming to shut it down.

Reminds me of about 3 years ago. I like it! Good question, though... Loss of funds, loss of interest, banned? Good riddance, imo.

Three years ago was pretty wild, wasn't that during the elections?

Major jump happened because of the elections, yes. It was about this amount (during peak hours - not 1 AM EDT - big change), however, it was a completely different atmosphere. I remember when going over a thousand was an eye brow raiser, though. Times are a changin'.

Even up until last October there were only about 500-800 on an average night. Then it jumped up to 3k, then 9k, and then back down- right now it's sitting at 2300 is is relatively low by recent standards but still high even just going back 6 months.

I've killed many of my brain cells (thanks cider), but, I don't remember that, tbh. As Mast said (and I know and agree), we haven't seen those low numbers in at least 4-5 years.

I agree. I don't know, maybe we are getting lost in translation on a text forum?

That's at least how I remember it. Could be misremembering, I haven't been around here as long as others. Only since about fall of '16.

5 yrs ago 500 was a lot. 3 yrs ago 1000 was pretty normal iirc 2 yrs ago political trash sunk us.

5 yrs ago 500 was a lot.

Showing my actual age (ie. DAE remember when 500 "users here now" was like "whoa"?). ;).

3 yrs ago 1000 was pretty normal iirc

Peak hours, not at almost 1:30 AM EDT.

I started coming 7 yrs ago. I remember when it was slow, but people took their time. The comment sections were kinda tepid. OP provided the interesting content. Now the comments are the content, and posts are just a fulcrum. Sucks man.

Holy shit, you know!

I know you hate me. But i hope you dont think i'm stupid lol.

Putin doesn't hate anyone. He's just particular. You'd be the same if you lived with 20 dogs in Alaska.

Well, now i hate him because that sounds like he is living the dream.

Hey, mate. I don't hate you, we just don't always see eye to eye.

No, you think i'm one of the bad guys. And that couldn't be further from the truth. Our relationship is improving though, and i'm not going to lie, i'm grateful for that. Why does it matter? I dunno. I give a fuck what people think of me. But our situation has never sat well with me. Take care man.

That is the deathrattle of the internet.

We're all fatigued

This is just a Refractory period we will be back to fucking the he truth into existence in no time we just need some orang juice.

you know how this shyt works.

It's been infested with shills, trolls, political garbage and much harder to find anything related to conspiracies.

I agree that the submission statement started the downward spiral.

possibly we are all changing behavioraly. slowing down.

You do know that posts here make it to r/all. Users see it and come to this sub and find other content that make them want to keep coming back. That's how I found this sub.

Massive censorship.

Lol. Of what?

I've noticed that myself. Definitely a large number of "people" aren't on here anymore.

I think it’s probably a combination of things...

The sub rules changes probably reduced the number of people. As some already mentioned, the submission statements got rid of a lot of low energy posters that just spammed links to some blog the poster likely ran.

The two month rule I think really did a lot to get rid of a lot of users as well. One can argue if that’s a good thing or bad, but I think most wont wait the two months and forget to come back once they can start to post.

Lastly, I think the political side has played a big role. I believe it is common that when “your side” is in power people get more complacent and less conspiratorial. So many of the anti-Hillary M, anti-Obama wing have left. While an influx of the anti-Trump folks have come. There are still a lot of trump loyalists but not to the same degree as there use to be.

Lastly, I think there has been some crackdown behind the scenes of Reddit to attempt to stop bot and non-organic activity. I have no proof, other than it makes sense since other social media outlets are under scrutiny. So maybe, a lot of the people that aren’t here as much anymore we’re actually never here for organic reasons in the first place.

Less people, may not be a bad thing.

I must have missed the "Elgin AFB Shuttered" news.

This used to be a place where one could voice their opinion and post on various “conspiracy” related material...and then all of the sudden the mods have become obsessively controlling with big egos on power trips, utilizing bans and new rules just to post a damn link! It also seems to me at least, every time I post something I feel like whoever or whatever is posting replies downvotes etc come off as the all knowing dicks with ridiculing and degrading comments and appear less interested in conspiracies and more interested in coming off as the superior intellect. I’ve come to the conclusion this is just another controlled space for people to THINK they have an open and free forum, but sadly it’s just the opposite. Then I go to VOAT to try to find an open and free place like this used to be, and it’s offline! Fuck me,
