Apple Programs iPhones to Fail
1 2018-07-29 by TPA_Grunge_97
I am sure this has been discussed many times, but today I finally got fed up enough with this shit to post about it. Every single year since I have owned an iPhone, around the time the new model is set to be announced my phone starts acting fucky. Sometimes it won't load emails correctly, sometimes it will crash randomly, and sometimes it will have battery issues. Every single year, right after the new iPhone is released, all of that goes away. I just had my phone charged to 100% and it went down to 1% within 3 hours of just sitting in my pocket. I plugged it in and now it's back to 80% in two minutes. The cycle has begun...

Planned obsolescence has been around for awhile. Apple has got it down to a science at this point.

Just don’t update your OS, and that shit will run just fine for years.
1 ljout 2018-07-29
Didn't this drain the battery on older models?
1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-07-29
And makes them run slower in general
1 WakeUpWindFish 2018-07-29
What’s worse is that they practically force the update on you.
You only have the option to update now or remind me to update later. And it keeps prompting you constantly. It’s so annoying.
I accidentally pressed update once after my hundredth attempt to press update later.
1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-07-29
Yes!!! They fucking got me a couple months ago, I woke up one day to discover everything was different. I was absolutely furious. The fact that you can’t undo it or go backwards is telling enough.
So close to just saying “Fuck Apple” for good.

You can revert firmware updates if you have prior foresight to make full localized backups and regular intervals.
Unfortunately reverting to an old image, means you also lose any new information, contacts, settings, etc added after the image was taken.
1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-07-29
You sure about that? I was under the impression that old backups didn’t revert the OS, just the data.
1 upvoatz 2018-07-29
You have to make a FULL local backup to your computer. There's a selection for it in itunes.
1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-07-29
That’s the only way I back up my shit! Good to know, I’ll have to give it a shot, thanks

I bought a Note 4 a few years ago.
Comparable to the newest iPhone, which says enough.
Removable battery, 128gb of storage, still runs fine. Able to shoot 4k.
1 The_Black_Stallion 2018-07-29
Imo google phones crap out on me way more frequent.
1 DontTreadOnMe16 2018-07-29
Well now I’m back to square one.
1 HeyDontDoxMe 2018-07-29
You gonna believe some random dude with a $80 android?
You need to buy Samsung only when it comes to android. Maybe the google phones themselves but Samsung has the best hardware of anyone out there, to include beating Apple.
My Note 4 is almost 5 years old and can still out perform many new modeled iPhones.
1 Pugmaster9001 2018-07-29
I miss my note 4. It shit out on me after 3 years though. Random shutdowns, power cycling, not to mention i went through like 6-8 batteries for it.
1 PACHO_FRITO_MADRE 2018-07-29
when the update prompt comes up you gotta go into iphone storage and delete the update so it can’t update automatically. it’ll be sitting there as if it’s another app. it’s definitely really annoying.

Don't be the old guy in the comic pic of buying Apple products.

My iphone 6S is still going strong, still as fast as it was day 1. Battery holds 87% charge still. Some updates have issues so maybe update?
1 BigMic25 2018-07-29
Mine too i love my 6s
1 crop_circlejerk 2018-07-29
I'm still using a 5c and it's still going strong

This really should be a user enableable or disableable feature.
1 WakeUpWindFish 2018-07-29
Of course!!!!!!! I’ve noticed this for years. It’s whack!
1 toneii 2018-07-29
Mine was acting up after update to i0s11, but the more recent updates seem to have fixed it, and it runs decent now. Give it time to recalibrate.

100000%
Last year in February both my and my coworkers iPhone 5’s stopped working and killed themselves. We both lost absolutely everything and the only way to save stuff was going to be to pay $7,000 to ATTEMPT data recovery that may or may not have worked.
1 3Dphilp 2018-07-29
Neither of you had an icloud or iTunes backup? It takes seconds to setup and can be done seamlessly in the background. Honestly I'm surprised your company doesn't require this.
1 CamoAndCrowns 2018-07-29
They were our personal phones, not work phones.
I don’t think she had a backup. My phones have actually never allowed me to backup to iCloud. I try it from time to time and it just never completes. No idea why. Apple has no answers for me. Really annoying.
1 The_Black_Stallion 2018-07-29
Honestly you should blame yourself. I was jailbreaking and shit at 11, get it together guy.
1 CamoAndCrowns 2018-07-29
Number 1, I’m a girl.
Number2, good for you, not every one is techy like that.
Number 3, I knew my phone refused to back up on iCloud so I would manually transfer things to my computer periodically but I did lose a lot of stuff I hadn’t yet transferred and all my texts, most of which were from my fiancé who had died several years prior.
It is NOT my fault thatno one can explain to me why I have never been able to back up my phone to iCloud. I’ve had iPhones for years and have never been able to do a successful backup. I can’t do more than go to multiple Apple stores and talk to the people who are supposedly experts and try to get an answer.
1 Geneoz 2018-07-29
ICloud by default comes with a maximum of 5 Gigabytes of free storage space. If you need more you must buy it in advance. When backing up up to iCloud the chances of exceeding the 5gig limit are near 100%! Running out of storage space while doing a back will cause it to fail with NO ERROR MESSAGE! It just does not complete! To solve this, I purchased the minimum upgrade which is 100 gig at a reasonable price. I now do all of my backups and file saves to iCloud.
1 CamoAndCrowns 2018-07-29
I’ve purchased more than enough extra storage multiple times. It gets a fraction of the way through but then just refuses to continue to backup and nothing is ever really backed up.
Again I’ve taken it to multiple Apple stores with their “experts” and no one can give me any answer as to why it won’t back up. I’ve had 4 different iPhones over the years and not once have I ever been able to back it up.
1 EdvinRama 2018-07-29
4 different phones and none of them could not back up? Seems like the typical 1D01T error to me.
And for the Apple stores, sure honey sure, expect they don't deal with software issues and transfer you to Apple support.
How about you get a backbone and accept your mistakes.
1 3Dphilp 2018-07-29
My iPhone 6 was turned almost unusable with ios11
Currently running ios12 beta and it's back to the same great phone it was before.
Apple really dropped the ball with ios11.
1 The_Black_Stallion 2018-07-29
Are people really this dumb? I wouldnt expect my old ass computer to run new and more demanding processes, whats the difference with the phone? The only thing I see fishy is the constant push from apple to update, although its still reversible if you have minimal knowledge of computers and expect it..
1 TPA_Grunge_97 2018-07-29
I understand that new software takes a more significant toll on older processors. That’s a given. What I’m talking about is how the phones all seem to start screwing up more right before the new phone comes out and start working correctly again about a month after it releases. Happens to me every single year.
1 Romek_himself 2018-07-29
you only repeat the nonsens propaganda bullshit from apple ... anyone who work with computers laugh about

All electronics are programmed to fail.
1 drsloth1138 2018-07-29
Apples latest IOS 12 will run on the 5s from 2013 and greater, try running any 5 year old Android and see how well it works.
1 varikonniemi 2018-07-29
Absolutely flawlessly.
1 mitakyt 2018-07-29
Well a 5 year android got it last update 4.5 years ago...
1 varikonniemi 2018-07-29
Except that a friend's galaxy s3 gets updates constantly, even the UI changed some month ago.
1 justANOTHERnewb 2018-07-29
Using a 6s that I have dropped and cracked the screen several times...no issues aside from the cracked screen. Maybe you just got a lemon
1 alienrefugee51 2018-07-29
Rule of thumb... with any given iPhone, only upgrade to a new full version of iOS once. For instance, my iPhone 6 came with iOS 9 and I’m currently on iOS 10 and will not upgrade it to 11. My iPhone 8 came with iOS 11 installed and I will upgrade it to 12 and then stop. The Mac has a little more mileage as far as OS X upgrades. If you ever have to restore your iPhone, well then you’re screwed and will be forced to upgrade to the most current version of iOS that will run on your particular model of iPhone.
1 sftktysluttykty 2018-07-29
I’ve had the iPhone 6S+ for three years now, and I still love it. I had to get the battery replaced this year, but batteries wear down in everything you buy. It’s to be expected. Also, Apple is currently offering $30 battery replacements for this year only, so get it replaced and it’ll be good as new. Mine was. My old battery was at like 50% capacity when I had it replaced.
1 MrWizard111 2018-07-29
I know what you mean as far as software. I have an older iPhone and heard the new ones are worse about the batteries. Mine was doing this for a while and I was able to stop it by just letting it fully charge. Even after it reaches 100% leave it on for another hour. You have to treat your battery right as a lot of people don't get that partially charging them over and over will ruin your battery.
1 getoffmylawn10 2018-07-29
And yet, yall still buy it.
1 TuxAndMe 2018-07-29
Don't buy an iPhone, problem solved. If you wanna be a sheep like everybody else so you aren't left out, don't complain about the price you have to pay. It's a brilliant business plan.
1 n1nj4_v5_p1r4t3 2018-07-29
Do you force close all apps? You know tons of shit can be given permission to run in the backround... watching your gps position, listening to your mic... its nice how apple gives so much control over the device.
1 TPA_Grunge_97 2018-07-29
I close every app once I've finished using it. Have been since my first ipod touch.
1 n1nj4_v5_p1r4t3 2018-07-29
Also turning off bluetooth helps a ton, and turning off WIFI when you know you arent going to be using it helps a ton, or else your device is always and endlessly searching for a non-cell connection.
1 TPA_Grunge_97 2018-07-29
I have heard this before, and usually I have BT turned off. However, I use the WIFI on my college campus and at home a great deal so that doesn't really allow me too much opportunity to try that.
1 n1nj4_v5_p1r4t3 2018-07-29
I also turn off the auto rotate detector. It is a physical sensor that requires power to operate.
1 sawftacos 2018-07-29
And yet you people keep buying their overpriced shit... how stupid are you honestly ?
1 TPA_Grunge_97 2018-07-29
Mine was a gift, and I am allowed to be frustrated by it regardless of weather I spent my own money on it or not. Meanwhile, your only contribution here is to sit behind your computer screen and call me stupid? Well done, sir. You've won the internet.
