What if climate change isn’t real

1  2018-10-03 by Gaaforsausage

Please bare with me, but, playing devil’s advocate (or not, depending on your position), what if climate change isn’t real? What do you think the implications would be or are?Just had a dream about mass hysteria (end of the word scenario in which a doomsday scenario turned out to be false and I bought Apple stock for $1/share). Please stick to the scenario and don’t let this convo devolve in partisan bickering, etc.

I believe climate change is real BUT it is not as bad as they say it is and I also think that a minimal amount is caused by us humans. Also, I am a dummy.

I think you would enjoy what Randall Carlson has to say on the subject. And I agree, the debate is extremely unbalanced and hysterical.

Follow the money.

Are the banks not lending over 30 years for coastal properties and businesses whilst doing fuck all to stop fossil fuel use?

The sky is not falling, Global warming is BS but climate change is a constant throughout history.

Banks could be operating on a shortsighted basis, though, no? As far as CEO’s go, their motto could be, make billions today, worry about losses tomorrow.

Banks, like ALL corps on the stockmarkets are short-sighted, being listed basically means you have to be short-sighted.

Climate change is real.

The planet has been going through climate change since its inception.

That's the thing I don't get. We can argue all day about whether climate change is man made or not, but how can anyone possibly deny that climate actually exists at all?

Yep, and that right there should be the biggest tell of all.

Instead of arguing about how we can make things better, were still stuck arguing whether its man made or not.

Obviously its not man made, earth goes through inter glacial periods every 10-20,000 years, most people think the ice age is over, but its not. Thats why studies where they drill out ice core samples and they can see this repeating pattern of climate change is so important( i thought it was a funny that osu 6 months ago, their refrigeration system and its backup failed, and decades of ice cores were melted ). So while were all still arguing about how stupid people are who dont believe in climate change (like donald trump, who says, i dont believe climate change is responsible by man) and then its all over the news "donald trump doesnt believe in climate change". Time keeps ticking on, and whatever is causing these patterns looms closer and closer.

It's not global warming we should be worrying about .. global cooling is the real threat

Basic science dictates only so much CO2 out into the atmosphere can be converted via carbon sinks. Look at this chart of historic CO2 concentrations that led up to mass extinction events.

https://imgur.com/a/bwwekGK

Now realize we are at the highest ever recorded, almost off of the charts. The problem is numbers of humans and their related activities. Think about a single napkin being cut down in the forest, transported to a mill with emissions from cutting, sent to a manufacturing plant (logistics emissions), emissions from that process alone, then shipped to a central shipping facility, then to a main McDonalds warehouse, and then to individual stores.

Now do that with straws, paper bags, bananas, shoes, etc., the list goes on and on. Its industrial civilization that is unsustainable. If a Blue Ocean event occurs in the arctic, all the methane releases in the permafrost will give us maybe 2 decades as a species left. Its x36 more potent then co2 over a decade period. No one is making any significant impacts in their daily life so we are fucked. Shut look how many here dont even understand basic chemistry or geography, but it's not their fault. Mostly the lack of education. Unless your one who assumes everything and all knowledge is fake lol. Them all this was a waste of my time to type.

Do you work as an environmental scientist?

It's my major yes

Stop looking at memes and look at government data. Your meme is a lie and its idiot to regurgitate false information.

I see your Government data and remind you of Climategate my esteemed fellow.

So your the type to ignore any and all written gathered data but will share a meme backed up with zero facts but a theory?

The meme was a real Government shill and the Industry of Climate Taxation is the Tit you will be suckling from when you use your degree.

Don't forget Climategate.

No one gives a shot about al gore but you. I just shared recorded data that is not manipulated in any way, just a basic observation. No twisting of stats of any kind.

Seems like the facts have upset you so you immediately cling to your chosen ideals no different then a religious fanatic or zealot.

Seems like you are the one who has the shots, don't cite questionable sources without addressing Climategate.

None of my sources are questionable. I have the ability to envision potential conspiracies but just blanket recorded data from multiple sources, even meters you can get at home, is not questionable.

Educate yourself on Climategate, data manipulation, the non correlation between C02 emissions and temperature.

It will take a lot of deprogramming since you probably just had 4 years of garbage in. Good luck to you Red.

I've seen charts that have eliminated the warming period in the 40's. Boom, it's gone. Just to try and convince people that it's warmer today.

Climate models are manipulated, climate data is manipulated. The whole theory is just bad science.

You must know the vast majority of geologists disagree with you, and consider your discipline (resting on mathematical models of highly stochastic problems) to be pseudo-science.

One of the funniest thing in this century are environmental "scientists" ignoring the sun. Yes, believe it or not, that burning ball of hydrogen in the sky, is indeed part of the environment :)

Also it is somewhat amusing I've never found a report about the "CO2 footprint" of a war; yet incadescent lightbulbs are contraband.

Anyone who doesn't understand the endgoal of all this is a global tax on CO2, and that it would be congruent with tyranny and death, is sound asleep.

Yeah, whatever your view on global warming and climate change, I think most reasonable can agree the carbon tax bullshit has got to be a corporatist trojan horse scam.

I am old enough and have experienced it personally.

In the 70s and 80s they scared us with a prediction of a new ice age, I'm still waiting for it.

All of you can imagine what I think about current predictions.

Thank you fellow old person. I dodged the acid rain bullet too.

You're actually correct, we are entering into an ice age. Historically when entering into ice ages you get climate change. The weather becomes unstable and becomes more extreme (hot and cold), eventually growing colder and colder.

This makes me wonder if our current world officials know there will be a world changing, cataclysmic event caused by weather change within the next 50 years.

It’s like the president gets sworn into office and gets told the worlds probably going to explode in around 2032 instead of if there are aliens at Area 51.

This exactly. Enjoy your time, folks. If you're under 30 like me, we are in for one hell of a ride. If you have kids, move to the middle of nowhere and start a homestead, otherwise you are at the mercy of animalistic humans in the city.

Didn't Al Gore say the polar ice caps would have melted by now? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsioIw4bvzI

I’m super duper cereal, you guys. EXCELCIOR!

If you actually watched the clip you would know that he didn't say that (unless you did watch it and are just lying about what he said). He said that some models (not all or even most) suggest a 75% chance that there would be no ice for a small portion of the year. There is a big difference. And even if he did say that, since when is Al Gore being wrong about science proof that climate change isn't real?

Oh only a 75% chance, man sorry I was so wrong. That makes all the difference! Carbon dioxide is 0.04% of the atmosphere.

He didn't even say that. He said some models say 75%. There is a big difference. I would say that he probably should have been more clear that he was talking about potential worst case scenario not a guarantee.

Makes no difference. His emphasis was on those particular studies, which as we know were so far off base it's not even funny.

If it makes no difference then why would you lie about what he said rather than just tell the truth?

I didn't lie about what he said. Those words came out of his mouth. I posted the video for all to see his bullshit.

You commented that Al Gore said that the polar ice caps would melt by now. This is a lie he did not say that. He said that some models say there is a 75% chance that all polar ice would be gone for a small portion of the year. If you don't understand the difference between those two statements I don't know what to say.

The climate always changes and has for millions of years. To think humans are responsible for it is ignorant and narcissistic imo. That said, I'm sitting here wondering if the world population is actually 7 billion. I think it's a lot less.

It's not really possible that we can house 7 billion people on this planet and NOT affect it.

To me, the whole climate change debate misses the mark. Regardless of C02 emissions, or whether temperatures are changes, the simple fact is that we need to take better care of the EARTH. One may question what the consequences of pollution, industrialization, deforestation, overfishing, -yada yada may be; but to deny that there will be consequences is to have ones face buried in the sand; or to have no regard for future generations.

How to regulate these matters? How to impose these restrictions? I don’t pretend to know. However, these are the things we should be talking about. Instead, we seem to be stuck arguing about climate change. Drives me bonkers.

That's the rub.

Climate change is focused on human emissions of CO2. If anyone disagrees with that, people jump on the "you must want dirty air and water" train.

Which shows the success of the conditioning in the vernacular.

Although u dont think its man made but I'm in the midwest and the weather has def changed here.

The weather has changed everywhere, its not just you. And anyone who tries to claim the climate change isnt real (climate change, not man made climate change), then they have been living in a bubble so long that they havent bothered to look outside in decades.

I'll agree with ya, I know its changing everywhere. Just where I'm at, the weather patterns are way off here.

It's definitely real, people who aren't sleep walking through life will mostly admit to this when you ask them why it's still hot in October when 20 yrs ago it was freezing cold. Head on over to r/collapse... Or don't if you can't handle the imminent doom

Government controlling the weather makes it hard to prove anything until we have transparency .

Man made climate change? You mean that thing where rich people tell poor people they have to eliminate and/or reduce their consumption of resources to save the planet while they continue live luxurious and gluttonous lives.

He didn't even say that. He said some models say 75%. There is a big difference. I would say that he probably should have been more clear that he was talking about potential worst case scenario not a guarantee.
