Reddit has been corrupted.

The hive-mind has been compromised, under the influence of something dark and sinister.
I've recently had a disagreement with a member of the wealthiest 1 percent on here. I've encountered hatred towards middle class hustlers, righteous indignation towards fare-jumping kids, defenders of big oil, bankers and the ruling elite. Important posts are lost amongst
cancer-faking trolls, reposts, bullshit breaking news and countless reminders of what every other thread is doing wrong. It ain't like it used to be around here. Almost like there's a conspiracy to weaken and make meaningless anything on here.

--OR-- there are exponentially more people on here now (me included) and with more people come more idiots (me probably included). Stupidity isn't a conspiracy, just the norm.

I have a saying for that: "For every one Einstein, there's a million Corkys."
1 [deleted] 2011-03-17
This is misguided. There needs to be a lot of "commoners" for every Einstein. Geniuses and whatnot need regular folk so they don't have to do as many chores and can spend their time on higher pursuits.
-5 DankMasterTripper 2011-03-17
its common for a conspiracist to think that. don't even care if i get downvoted.
2 [deleted] 2011-03-17
"the idiots are taking over"
1 [deleted] 2011-03-17
Regression to the mean.

I know r/conspiracy is an odd play to harp on about Hanlons Razor... but,
-1 [deleted] 2011-03-17
You don't know what you are talking about.

All the agents of this massive conspiracy have been trained at Digg.com
28 Slipgrid 2011-03-17
As online communities grow, they also decline. It's gotta be a rule or law of some sort. We are just a few million users away from YouTube style comments.

This is very true, I've seen it with virtually every forum I've been on.

We need a graph.

Its the new government software program that projects pro-American values (according to whom?) towards any perceived target. It is not the Hive mind, it is the HSA & ICE Hivemind.
7 cojoco 2011-03-17
That's easy to answer.
America exists to advance and protect rich people and corporations.
Anything else is just an annoyance.
9 alllie 2011-03-17
So is that why lately over half of the posts on the first page are pictures of no particular significance?
1 LittleSusieAnal 2011-03-17
If I were a hacker I would spend my time trying to permanetly shut down imgur.com . People posting stupid pics from there has taken over much of reddit.
8 alllie 2011-03-17
I've read Conde Nast owns imgur and is pushing imgur and dumbing down reddit. http://i.imgur.com/11DLu.png
3 mom-bot 2011-03-17
stuff like that is why you are one of my favorite redditors.
1 Volopok 2011-03-17
Could we not just post all of our text post in image form to protest this?
1 alllie 2011-03-17
Hmmm... I wonder if getting an imgur account and posting the shorter submissions as images would help them move up?
9 GordieLaChance 2011-03-17
Scumbag Steve and the 'here is a pic of my dog who died today' threads were created by the CIA to destroy Reddit. Write it down before it's erased from the internet.

Write something else they don't want you to know on the paper and hide around the corner with a knife.
7 [deleted] 2011-03-17
You understand it perfectly.
3 Purpledrank 2011-03-17
we need a new reddit.

You're right. Dig a little deeper.
2 thirdoffive 2011-03-17
We've been flooded with new people. Maybe we can get the admins to allow us to create subreddits that filter by join date. A "3 year club & up only" option perhaps. Probably will never happen, but I can dream.
2 xXSheepyXx 2011-03-17
A 1 year at least. This decline only seemed to have happened in the past few months really.
2 jeremyeatworld 2011-03-17
since i got here
2 Volopok 2011-03-17
Cointelpro accounts are rampant as well as idiots and unreasonable people.
2 TehScrumpy 2011-03-17
I think I've found a new subreddit that will make me laugh for DAYS.
Take it easy guy.
1 DoctorMiracles 2011-03-17
...the cancer that's killing ReddWAIT WHAT?
1 cojoco 2011-03-17
Just keep plugging away, fighting the good fight.
A million interested volunteers will be a lot more effective than a thousand paid mercenaries.
2 destroyerofwhirls 2011-03-17
Not when those paid mercenaries control thousands of fake online personas each..
Just sayin...
1 toupeira 2011-03-17
So where do these wealthy Redditors hang out then? Are you saying there's something even more elite than Reddit Gold?
1 [deleted] 2011-03-17
we could have a long discussion about the net. sites like ats used to be common - remember when the net was nothing but a bunch of hacked together personal projects and collaborations? There was no censorship either - you could find information on UFOs and shemales with the same search engines.
The elite control the minds of the populace through the media. They have cable on lock down - and they have those addicted to the passive information of television voting just as they want them to (this effectively renders our democracy void).
The internet was adopted at high speed by the masses. Those who still cling to their televisions also now have access to our tubes.
In agreement with falor42, yes, more people online in general means they will bring with them their meatspace drama and baggage. However in addition to this there has been a very clear and concerted effort by business and governments to reel in the net.
Think of it this way: the internet, no bullshitting, is the biggest thing since the printing press and likely since fire. If the US (or any other governmental power) wanted to, we could have lightning fast internet in every house wirelessly by satellite. We could enable true exchange of ideas and usher in an era of peace and tolerant exploration and discovery.
The truth is that the elite have most of the populace in a bag, and in that bag they are easily controlled and easily milked for revenue. The internet threatens to educate the populace about the bag, and the elite will do everything they can to tear this down.
Imagine ten years after the printing press was widely adopted some force came through and smashed them all.

I thought Reddit was gone too for a while. Change your subscription settings. It worked a miracle for me. Mainly get rid of funny and Fu712 FTFMe.
1 WE_ID 2011-03-17
Stop reading the frontpage all the time lol

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean we aren't out to get you. ಠ_ಠ

1 Healtone 2011-03-17
Always keep yourself well informed, to the best of your ability. If you keep your logical and critical mind maintained along with your intuition it won't matter how much garbage there is on here, you'll see right through it.

Sock puppets!!
1 ss_camaro 2011-03-17
where is the link.. what was the nature of the disagreement?
1 georedd 2011-03-17
I have been pointing this out for quite some time..
it is not random.
specific type posts are targeted for burial.
for example one of my posts is an ALL TIME TOP TEN POST on reddit by the numbers but you won't see it in TOP listings for all time because of it's topic against the medical insurance racket..
1 ninjaholiday 2011-03-17
There are quite a few douches on Reddit.
0 werkshop1313 2011-03-17
Should make a reddit for squares, like LinkedIn did for facebook.
-1 koonat 2011-03-17
This post IS everything it's bitching about.
So meta in here.
Popozuda72, you're fucking retarded.
0 Popozuda72 2011-03-17
Finally, the truth.

1 HaightnAshbury 2011-03-17
jsyk, /r/conspiracy doesn't take too kindly to such jokes and/or sarcasm
3 [deleted] 2011-03-17
Sorry but I totally missed the point of the post and dismissed it as one of the latest ridiculous conspiracies, when in fact he was saying what I have been thinking, that the recent spate of stupid nonsense no source posts lately are actually intended to be that way, that would explain it.
Downvote away I deserve it.
2 HaightnAshbury 2011-03-17
Of course a place where the public can come and discuss strange arrangements of power, influence and occurrences will be subject to an injection of misinformation. If anything is to be expected, it's that.
Nevertheless... /r/conspiracy is no different from the other parts of reddit, where people usually cannot see sarcasm through their boiling indignation.
I get what you're saying though and I honor your first post as the point-martyr that it is. :)
