Is Steven Colbert's presidential run designed to leech the youth vote from Ron Paul?

I just had this idea that maybe Colbert's presidential run was a way to cut Ron Paul's overwhelming support? Thoughts?

He's telling people to vote for Herman Cain instead; who is on the ballot and will inevitably pull votes from Paul. So the answer is yes.

Watch his most recent "rally" in South Carolina and you will hear otherwise. Colbert admits that he says Herman Cain as a joke and says to vote for "whoever Herman Cain told you to vote for" (Herman Cain tells the audience to vote for whoever they believe in). Combine this with Colbert's recent MSNBC interview and you will hear that he likes Ron Paul out of all the Republican candidates...So the answer is actually, most likely, no.

Paul has overwhelming support?

No.

they already have the vote, no matter who runs. it's sad. =(

When it comes to the electronic voting machines. Yes they do but, hand counted votes aren't really that much of a concern to me.

yeah maybe you're right. let's hope so.

It's an interesting conspiracy. I think that Colbert is one of the good guys though and I would like to believe he genuinely supports Paul. Ron Paul is the man, and I have just donated $25.00 to him, first time contributing :-)

Paul was my second ever political contribution. Colbert was my first.

My belief is it's more of an comedic experiment that exposes the ludicrous Supreme Court's Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision to let corporations undermine self government.

Colbert and Stewart both work for Viacom.

They completely took over the rally for truth or sanity whatever it was called and subverted the cause.

Their job is to grab a movement by the hand and lead it away from the centre. They pull left. If it was a right leaning start to the rally, then FOX would have taken it over.

These guys are gatekeepers designed to keep the left from the right and uniting against their bosses.

Considering he's not on the ballot? No.

no.

colbert has repeatedly attacked romney and newt. He's left paul pretty well alone. he's doing this just to point out how stupid the candidates are. That and perhaps testing the political waters for him running for senate or other offices.

No, he runs every time to draw publicity to himself and his show.

I'd say it was Mitt.

The whole thing (the superPAC and his campaign) is a stunt.

While the game may have been rigged prior to 2000 via control of the media. It was during the 2000 and 2004 elections that I was convinced that the USA is no longer a government of the people.

So, on the one hand, I find Colbert's activity offensive to the seriousness of the election (like Vermin Supreme). But, on the other hand, no more offensive than George W. Bush (the retarded son of a nefarious powermonger) actually being president for eight years.

you seem to think Ron Paul is an "anti-establishment candidate" (as if such thing even exists); what makes you think that?

SHHH! don't disagree with Ron Paul supporters on /r/conspiracy! Don't you know he will be a king and magically fix everything if he is elected?

I doubt it seeing as Colbert has said he supports Ron Paul.

Source?

Most of the search results are links to his appearance on MSNBC, so I will assume that is what you are referring to.

Out of the Republicans running, he supports Paul. This doesn't include Obama or any independents who may be running. Also, he said he supported Paul over the others simply because he is consistent, and not necessarily because of any of his policies.

I know that, as I did the search for you and I had watched the video previously.

Then you should know that saying "Stephen Colbert said he supports Ron Paul" is taking what Colbert said out of context.

Current thread is titled: "Is Steven Colbert's presidential run designed to leech the youth vote from Ron Paul?"

My response: "I doubt it seeing as Colbert has said he supports Ron Paul."

Colbert: "I like Ron Paul...he is intellectually consistent, absolutely.."

If that doesn't imply that he even slightly supports Ron Paul, I don't know what does. I'm not trying to tell you who Colbert is voting for (I have no idea and don't care)...but it's pretty obvious he isn't trying to take votes away from Ron Paul if he says he likes him most out of all the Republican candidates...so what exactly is your problem?

EDIT: You'll also hear that he wants the youth to vote for whomever they want to vote for if you watch his recent speech in South Carolina.

I think when I say "supports" you hear "SOLEY SUPPORTS"...where as I mean it in a non-political way...he simply expressed his support for Ron Paul.

Out of the limited selection of the four republicans running, he supports Paul. Your post, while correct in the fact that he isn't trying to leech support from Paul, implies that he supports Paul out of all the candidates.

No it doesn't. I said, "I doubt it seeing as Colbert has said he supports Ron Paul." Not: "I doubt it seeing as Colbert has said he supports Ron Paul out of all the candidates". I see your confusion, but I have not implied anything...you have implied it yourself, in your own head.

Right because even Colbert can just not stand Paul, right? He must also be working with the Feds to come up with hypnotizing beverages made to make to younger voters stray from Ron Paul.
