I think you are missing the bigger picture about not releasing tax returns.

As a Mormon Mitt Romney is supposed to donate 10% of all his money to the Mormon Church. By hiding these tax records he ensures that the Mormon church does not get too see how much money that he is hiding and not giving to the church.

It would be a HUGE scandal to Mormons to see "The White Horse" blatantly lie and intentionally deceive to avoid paying his Tithe.

Let's not buy into the "oh this guy is bad but this guy worse" paradigm of thinking. It's a moot point, neither of them are going to favor the people over their corporate sponsors. Nobody in Congress wants to show off their tax records either. Probably because they didn't want the people to find out how much money they make from book deals and insider trading.

I'm guessing there's something in there associating him with the Mormon Church. People already know his tax rate is super low.
